The War of 1812 Ancestors of Marion Gohr

In researching my wife's family, so far I've only found one War of 1812 soldier in her direct lineage. He was from Virginia and was the first of her Johnson ancestors to settle in Madison County, Arkansas.

My known War of 1812 ancestors are:

Martin JOHNSON, Sr. b. Aug. 1777 possibly Lunenberg Co., VA, d. 19 January 1852 Madison Co., AR; md. Sarah COMBS, b. 1779 Hawkins Co., TN, d. 1829 Warren Co., TN. Records show that Martin, Sr. was a sergeant under Capt. James Tate's Company of Infantry in the War of 1812. The company payroll states that Martin was paid $41.33 for the term that he served which was three months and twenty three days; from 28 Jan. 1814 to 19 May 1814. He was allotted $1.17 for traveling allowance before muster and after discharge. The going rate was 12 cents per day in the state of Tennessee. He was discharged at Fayetteville, Tennessee. He is buried in the Wesley Cemetery at Wesley, Madison County, Arkansas. (I have been to his grave site.)

Martin Johnson is from a family that distinguished itself in many early wars of our country. He was the son of Major James Johnson of the American Revolution, and he was the grandfather of Lieutenant John Johnson of the Union Army during the Civil War. See my Johnson Page for further information on this family.
