The Civil War Ancestors of Marion Gohr

Since I am rather new at tracing my ancestors (actually, my husband does all the genealogy research for me), I've only found two Civil War soldier in my direct lineage so far. The first one I will mention is Lieutenant John Johnson who was from Arkansas and fought for the Union Side.

My known Civil War ancestors are:

Lieutenant John Johnson, who served in Company G, 1st Arkansas Infantry in the Union Army during the Civil War.

He was b. 29 July 1833 Madison Co., AR, d. 14 Oct. 1906 Madison Co.; md. 7 April 1853 Madison Co., AR to Rosanna ALLISON, b. 29 Sept. 1833 Maury Co., TN, d. 7 Jan. 1916 Madison Co., AR (both buried in the Wesley Cemetery, Madison Co., AR).

*Note: My husband, Glenn Gohr, has visited the grave sites of Lieutenant John Johnson and his wife, Rosanna, in the Wesley Cemetery, Madison, Arkansas. His record of service appears on his tombstone. He was a lieutenant in the Civil War and served in Company G, 1st Arkansas Infantry in the Union Army.

  1. Rev. George Henry CLARKE, Sr. was in the Civil War in the Union Army and was taken prisoner twice. He escaped from Libby Prison and later was in prison at Andersonville. While in prison at Andersonville he bribed a guard for bread by giving him his watch. Many years later the "stolen" watch was returned while Rev. Clarke was serving as a Baptist pastor in Kansas.

He was b. 7 Nov. 1844 London, England, d. 30 June 1917 Oakland, KS; md. 12 Dec. 1866 Ft. Wayne, IN to Eliza Jane CRAWFORD, b. 5 March 1844 Conshohocken, PA, d. 11 Feb. 1920 Ellsworth, KS
