HARRIS DNA—GROUP 20

Compiled by Glenn Gohr

*This is a partial summary. It may take several weeks for any updates to this page after updates to the Harris Y-DNA Results page at FTDNA and the last update from the HARRIS WELCOME Page. This is a time-consuming project.

Last updated January 1, 2018.

(Contact the webmaster with any further updates.)

This is an ongoing project seeking to chart out lines of descent that have been DNA tested as shown on the Harris Y-DNA Results Page. Information is based on DNA results, lineage information supplied by kit submitters, Bible records, vital records, legal documents, census records, family histories, internet sources, etc. In some cases the paper trail and/or information found on the web or other sources may be in error. Please view this information as a tool and not as proven fact.

NOTICE: Information presented in these webpages is not to be construed as PROVABLE FACTS. It is up to the user to verify all information that he/she receives. Some information has been provided by kit submitters and their own research. Other information has been added from other sources. Additions and corrections are welcome.

Lineage information in brackets { } lists the Group Number and the DNA Kit Number as found on the Harris Y-DNA Results Page. If you are looking for a specific kit number, click CONTROL and F at the same time. Then do a key word search by kit number or name of earliest-known ancestor. Additional information will be included as more DNA markers are tested and as more participants match up with this grouping.

Three different lines have been submitted for Group 20. So far none of these have been connected.

This group belongs to the R1b1a2 haplogroup. Here are lineage charts (supported by DNA) that fall into Group 20 of the Harris Y-DNA Results. All spouses are not shown—only the ones that are listed as the parent of the generation that follows. For questionable generations, the names are preceded by an asterisk *. This means the connection between the person with an asterisk and the previous generation are unproven.

The modal listing of Group 20 up to 67 markers is listed on the HARRIS Y-DNA RESULTS Page.

In order to better compare matches in Group 20, the modal listing has also been posted on Ysearch with a user ID of K4EGA. To view the modal listing go to the Ysearch user ID page for K4EGA

This modal listing has also been posted at Ancestry.com on its DNA site. For those in Group 20 who have tested (or posted their results for free) with Ancestry.com, you should find a match with Group20Modal and surname Harris.

For an exact match to this group, the submitter must be a male with the HARRIS surname, be from the same haplogroup, and the DNA markers from his kit number should match exactly with these results. In most cases there will be at least one variation in DNA marker values. If the two test kits are from close relatives, then the variation is due to normal mutations of DNA. DNA mutations usually occur every 3 or 4 generations. Some specific markers tested are known to mutate faster than others.

Lineage #5.—DNA Kit #9999—Ysearch ID #2C7MB. This is for the line of Webber Harris (1779-1865) of Virginia and Estill County, Kentucky (Generation #4), a great-grandson of John Harris who married Mary Stanley.

Some have tried to place John Harris who married Mary Stanley as a son of the Robert Harris (ca. 1635-1701) of the Forks who reportedly married Mary Claiborne Rice. Possibly John is the son of another Robert Harris, but probably not Robert Harris of the Forks. More research needs to be done since Robert Harris (ca. 1635-1701) is listed as an ancestor in Group 6.

This Kit’s Ysearch user ID is 2C7MB. Additional information on the paternal line can be found on the Ysearch user ID page for 2C7MB

This family’s migration pattern is: Henrico Co., VA > Hanover Co., VA > Louisa Co., VA > Clermont Co., OH > Estill Co., KY > Isleworth, Middlesex, England.

This kit is a 67-marker test that belongs to the R1b1a2 haplogroup. It matches the 67-marker modal for Group 20 with variances in markers 30, 32, and 49. The lineage supplied by the DNA Kit submitter can be found here:

Lineage #9.—DNA Kit #95563—Ysearch ID #8N8UV. This is for the line of Mangum Jones (ca. 1781-ca. 1860).

The lineage has not been provided.

This Kit’s Ysearch user ID is 8N8UV. Additional information on the paternal line can be found on the Ysearch user ID page for 8N8UV

The country of origin listed is Wales. This family’s migration pattern is: North Carolina > Gilmer Co., Georgia.

This is a 67-marker test that belongs to the R1b1a2 haplogroup. It matches the 67-marker modal for Group 20 with variances in markers 21, 30, 32, 35, 40, 58, and 60. Since the family name is not Harris and there are so many variants, if there is a connection to others in Group 20, it cannot be very recent in time. The kit submitter has not supplied a lineage.
