GLENN GOHR’S HARRIS DNA PAGE—UNMATCHED KITS

Unmatched Lineages

*This is a partial summary. It may take several weeks for any updates to this page after the last update from the HARRIS Y-DNA RESULTS Page. This is a time-consuming project.

Last updated April 1, 2014.

(Contact the webmaster with any further updates.)

This is an ongoing project seeking to chart out lines of descent that have been DNA tested as shown on the Harris Y-DNA Results Page. Information is based on DNA results, lineage information supplied by kit submitters, Bible records, legal documents, family histories, and internet sources. In some cases the paper trail and/or information found on the web may be in error. Please view this information as a tool and not as proven fact.

NOTICE: Information presented in these webpages is not to be construed as PROVABLE FACTS. It is up to the user to verify all information that he/she receives. Additions and corrections are welcome.

Lineage information in curved brackets { } lists the DNA kit number as found on the Harris Y-DNA Results Page. Additional information will be included as more DNA markers are tested and as more participants fall into this category.

Here are just a very few selected lineage charts of interest of the unmatched kits that do not match up with any other Harris DNA group (hopefully in the future, I will find time to include additional charts, although there are many, many kits that fall into this category). On the HARRIS Y-DNA RESULTS Page the kits are arranged by similar DNA measurements. The unmatched kits on the Results Page are arranged by similar DNA structures as well. However, for ease of locating a kit, I have arranged these unmatched kits by kit number, going from smallest number to largest number. The smaller numbered kits tested first and the larger numbered kits tested later.

All spouses are not shown—only the ones that are listed as the parent of the generation that follows. For questionable generations, the names are preceded by an asterisk *. This means the connection between the person with an asterisk and the previous generation are unproven.

Unmatched Lineage #1.—DNA Kit #2461—Ysearch ID #HBT4R. This is for the line of Charles Creed Harris (1879-1929) of Patrick Co., Virginia (Generation #6), son of an Elizabeth Harris and an unknown father.

The male line of this Harris family ends with Charles Creed Harris (Generation #6) because of an unknown father. However through Elizabeth Harris, his mother, this line ties back to Group 10. While DNA comparisons have been made with other family surnames, no conclusive information has been found to determine the original surname of the male line.

This family's migration pattern is: Buckingham Co., VA > Patrick Co., VA.

This kit’s Ysearch user ID is HBT4R. Additional information on this DNA kit and the paternal line can be found on the Ysearch user ID page for HBT4R

This is a 37-marker test that belongs to the R1b1b2 haplogroup. The lineage supplied by the DNA Kit submitter at http://www.harrisdna.org/info/2461.html can be found here:

Unmatched Lineage #2.—DNA Kit #11878—Ysearch ID #FFS97. This is for the line of William Harris (1832-1910) (Generation #5), son of Sena D. Harris and an unknown father, possibly with the last name of Ely.

It should be noted that Sena’s brother, William Harris, married Catherine Ely. The male line of this Harris family ends with William Harris (Generation #5) because of an unknown father. However through Sena Harris, his mother, this line ties back four more generations to John Harris who married Lucy, which is the ancestor of Kit #73477 which continues down through Wilmington Harris (ca. 1811-bef. 1858).

This family's migration pattern is Virginia > Charlotte Co., VA > Lee Co., VA > Hawkins Co., TN > Hancock Co., TN > Campbell Co., TN > Leslie Co., KY.

This kit’s Ysearch user ID is FFS97. Additional information on this DNA kit and the paternal line can be found on the Ysearch user ID page for FFS97

Unmatched Lineage #3.—DNA Kit #12065—Ysearch ID #UHXJV. This is for the line of Abraham Harris (ca. 1776-1863) of Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania.

The kit formerly was associated with Group 2 of the Harris Surname DNA project, but as more markers were tested, it was found not to be a close enough match. DNA from this family (sample 12065) is a very close match for the HERRICK surname, suggesting that Herrick was originally the family name.

This family's migration pattern is: New Jersey > Lycoming Co., PA > Tioga Co., PA.

This kit’s Ysearch user ID is UHXJV. Additional information on this DNA kit and the paternal line can be found on the Ysearch user ID page for UHXJV

Unmatched Lineage #5.—DNA Kit #12975. This is for the line of John Harris (Bet. 1679-1700 - 1776) of Prince George’s Co., Maryland.

This line was thought to tie into the line of Sergeant John Harris (ca. 1588-ca. 1638) of Charles City Co., VA, as reported in an early family history, but the DNA does not match.

This family's migration pattern is: Prince George’s Co., MD> Fairfax Co., VA > Bourbon Co., KY > Montgomery Co., KY > Jackson Co., MO.

This is a 25-marker test that belongs to the J2 haplogroup. The lineage supplied by the DNA Kit submitter at http://www.harrisdna.org/info/12975.html can be found here:

John Harris b. bet.1679-1700 d. 1776 PG Co, MD

George W. Harris b. April 22, 1879 Jackson Co, MO d. 1961 Jackson Co., MO
Charles R. Harris b. June 8, 1921 Jackson Co, MO d. 1986 Jackson Co., MO
A family history reported in a 1914 book and a subsequent family publication printed in 1935 stated our family descended from Sgt. John Harris of the 2nd VA Charter. No proof was provided in either of these publications and several generations were skipped. We now have DNA evidence that this information was not correct. Unfortunately, many continue to use the earlier publications rather than change their records.

Unmatched Lineage #10.—DNA Kit #26686—Ysearch ID #F2ZHU. This is for the family of Beverly Harris (ca. 1763-1849) of Rutherford Co., Tennessee. This kit originally was placed in Group 17, but with further markers tested in that group, it was found not to be a close match, so it was moved to the unmatched kits. Beverly Harris is believed to be the son of David Harris and grandson of Robert Harris (ca. 1710-ca. 1785). It has been reported by some that this Robert Harris is the son of Robert Harris (b. ca. 1664) listed in Group 6 DNA Kit #11758, but the DNA does not match. Currently the lineage is not proven before Generation #3 shown here. It is recommended that these test results be expanded to 37 or more markers to prove or disprove what grouping this lineage would follow. Kit 27214 also claims to trace back to Robert Harris (ca. 1710-ca. 1786) who married Leminder/Lemander Smith.

Unmatched Lineage #14.—DNA Kit #34767—Ysearch ID #SVDSH. This is for the line of Robert Cornelius “R. C.” Harris (ca. 1820-ca. 1884) of Red River Co., Texas. This kit originally was placed in Group 14, but with further markers tested in that group, it was found not to be a close match, so it was moved to the unmatched kits.

One thing of interest is that Robert Cornelius Harris originated in Bedford County, Virginia. His wife was Millicent Snead of a colonial Virginia family. She is the granddaughter of Robert Snead (1762-1841) who married Sophia Eley Harris who is a descendants of the Daniel Harris (ca. 1705-???) line found in Group 20. Others of the Harris surname intermarried with Sneads, including William Harris (1762-1825) in Group 8 who married Keziah Snead.

This family's migration pattern is: Bedford Co., VA > Red River Co., TX.

This kit’s Ysearch user ID is SVDSH. Additional information on this DNA kit and the paternal line can be found on the Ysearch user ID page for SVDSH

Unmatched Lineage #23.—DNA Kit #53244—Ysearch ID #M49FK. This is for the line of Nathan D. Harris (Bet. 1816-1818 - 1894) of Dallas Co., Missouri.

This family's migration pattern is: Mecklenburg Co., VA > Sumner Co., TN > Dallas Co., MO.

This kit’s Ysearch user ID is M49FK. Additional information on this DNA kit and the paternal line can be found on the Ysearch user ID page for M49FK. There is some question about the paternal line for this kit as the submitter has given a lineage back to Nathan Harris as well as to a Johan Adam Bolch (ca. 1725-1794). Also of interest is that in the 1850 Census for Dallas County, Missouri, there is a James A. Harris and wife Elizabeth living next door to Nathan and Narcissa. James is the right age to be a brother of Nathan. It would be helpful if someone else from the line of Nathan Harris would have a Y-DNA test done.

This is a 67-marker test that belongs to the R1b1b haplogroup. The lineage supplied by the DNA Kit submitter at http://www.harrisdna.org/info/53244.html can be found here:

HARRIS DNA UNMATCHED KITS--FAMILY FINDER LINEAGE CHARTS

Family Finder Kit #1=DNA Kit #187483—Capt. William Harris (ca. 1735-1811)

Here are lineages for those that have submitted DNA for the Family Finder test and have a Harris connection, but so far they do not match up with any specific grouping that has been mapped out. A few are Harris males who have taken the Y-DNA testing and their lineage appears above with the other Y-DNA tests. Others listed here are Harris descendants (male or female) who connect up with the Harris line through a female connection(s) back a generation or more. With the Family Finder test, the Harris connection does not always follow the male line.

Family Finder Kit #1—DNA Kit #187483FF. This is the line of Capt. William Harris (ca. 1735-1811) of Louisa Co., Virginia.

The ancestry of Capt. William Harris is unknown. This is a Family Finder test where the lineage connects up with the Harris surname, but at this point not enough matches have been made to determine which group this kit belongs to. It could match up with Group 8 or Group 6. It would be good if another descendant from the William Harris/Mary Hudson line would do a DNA test. This kit has not joined the Harris DNA Project, but the Kit number has been supplied by the submitter. This family’s migration pattern is: Virginia > New Kent Co., VA > Goochland Co., VA > Louisa Co., VA.
