INTRODUCTION

I Corinthians 3:16 and other related verses remind us that our bodies are the temple of the Lord. Thus we should take care of our physical bodies as well as our spiritual life.

“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” (I Cor. 3:16 KJV).

A related Scripture verse is: “For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come” (I Tim. 4:8 KJV).

Notice that this verse says exercise profits little—but it does profit some. There is no question that spiritual matters far outshine the physical, but it is still important, and health is a part of keeping physically fit.

In case you may be wondering, I am not a fitness nut or a vegetarian. Most of what I understand about health just makes good common sense. I know a few people who are vegetarians, and it seems to work O.K. for them. There definitely are some good benefits from eating healthy vegetarian meals. And exercise is good, but don’t go overboard (unless you are training for the Olympics or some other worthy cause). There needs to be a balance and moderation in things that we do.

“Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand” (Philippians 4:5 KJV).

I believe that meats are a great source of protein, and I believe that God places animals on this earth to help provide food for mankind. (I won't do like the Hindus in India and “worship” the “sacred” cows by refusing to eat them.) I enjoy eating hamburger, steak, and other kinds of meat. I also believe it is O.K. to eat pork.

I base this belief on two things:

  1. In Genesis 1:24-25 we read, “And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after its kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after its kind: and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after its kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after its kind: And God saw that it was good.” Remember God said “IT WAS GOOD” when he mentioned the cattle and other animals (and I assume this also means pigs or pork).

  2. Although the Old Testament believers were admonished not to eat pork, Jesus issued a New Covenant. We read in Acts 10:9-16 about a vision that Peter had about eating meat. “And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth: In which were all manner of four-footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” Peter saw this vision 3 times, and shortly after this he took the gospel to the Gentiles. They were accepted as believers just the same as Jewish Christians. Apparently it was O.K. to eat certain meats which earlier had been forbidden.

HEALTH AND NUTRITION LINKS

Here is a listing of some good health and nutrition links that I recommend. I don't necessarily agree with every bit of information contained on these pages, but the basic ideas and resources given have been helpful to me, and I'm sure they will be a blessing to you also.

    http://www.mercola.com/ Mercola.com
(I highly recommend this site. Dr. Joseph Mercola of Schaumburg, Illinois, appears to be a recognized authority on so many different health issues that it is simply amazing. He issues frequent newsletters and videos about a variety of health issues, and back copies are accessible through his website.)

    http://www.mercola.com/townofallopath/index.htm The Town of Allopath
(This sounds very much like the medical field in the U.S. today, as well as problems that can be traced to big business cartels, pharmaceutical companies, the FDA, and other factors.)

ANTI-FLUORIDATION LINKS

Another health issue that is important to me is the problem in the U.S. with fluoridation of our water system in most large communities. Where does fluoride come from, and what is it? According to my dad who has studied nutrition and fluoridation for over 50 years, fluoride is a poison. If taken in too large of a dosage, it can poison you. My dad knows firsthand of a small child who was given fluoride drops “to help her teeth.” The fluoride solution ended up getting swallowed and damaged her internal organs. The dentist who prescribed this treatment skipped town in order to avoid bad publicity and a lawsuit. This is a prime example of an abuse of fluoride. But anyway, how do you regulate the amount of fluoride a person receives when it is in their water system? Different people drink different amounts of water. There is no regulation. And how much of the fluoridated water (a process that is costly to every community) gets wasted?? Quite a lot—more than ever gets drank. People water their grass, wash their clothes, takes showers, wash hands, etc. Most of the fluoride (if it is any good in the first place) is wasted. I am definitely against fluoridation of our water supply.

If indeed fluoride in small doses is helpful, remember that it is found in most toothpastes that you buy in the store, and it is also naturally found in many of our fruits and vegetables. Why add it to the water system? That is a total waste. From my dad’s research, he says that fluoride can cause hardening of the bones. If you are past 50 years old, you do not want your bones getting any harder or more brittle than what they are. Hardening of bones is not good for the elderly. Also, a number of people have been found to be allergic to fluoride. Is it fair to make them purchase bottled water? Why not just leave fluoride out of the water system, and let our water be as close to pure as possible? Shouldn’t we leave well enough alone, with putting anymore additives to our water? Here are a few sites relating to fluoride and healthy teeth which may be helpful:

    http://fluoridealert.org/ Fluoride Action Network
(I highly recommend this site, directed by Paul Connett. It is actively seeking to organize people on a worldwide basis to do away with the dangerous practice of water fluoridation altogether. There is also an email list and alerts about problems such as fluoridated baby formulas, correlation between fluoride and some forms of cancer, petitions, etc., as well a many, many news articles, online videos, reports on local cases involving water fluoridation, and the like.)
