The information I have on my wife's Looney connection has come through information which has been printed on the Callico/Callicott and Vaughan families. There are several affidavits from Madison County, Arkansas in the late 1800s that mention Indian blood, and this comes through the Looney connection.
The Looney connection is intriguing and still leaves many questions unanswered. According to the book Vaughan Pioneers by Lewis E. Vaughan, 1979, p. 232, there was a Captain David Looney who was in Lord Dunmore's War in 1774. Both William Vaughan (my wife's ancestor) and Daniel Boone served in Capt. David Looney's Company during this war. It seems very plausible that Capt. David Looney would be some relative of Fereby Benton listed here.
Another intriguing part of the story are the affidavits and tales of Indian blood. Mention is made of a Cherokee Indian named "Looney Tol-lem-Tees-Key" who visited the Vaughan family in Madison County, Arkansas, and was somehow related to Fereby (Benton) Vaughan. The connection was reported to be through the LOONEY family.
Besides Eddie Davis (who is also descended from this same Vaughan/Benton/Looney line), there are other Looney researchers in Springfield, Missouri, where I live. Evelyn Looney is also a member of the Ozarks Genealogical Society, and her husband descends from a Southern line of Looneys which may be distantly connected with the Looneys that my wife descends from--if only more information could be found out about her Looney relatives. There is also a Janice Looney who belongs to the Ozarks Genealogical Society.
Here is my wife's LOONEY lineage as far as can be proven:

Post a query (or information from any one of the above categories) on any LOONEY name or related family. Please give dates, and locations they lived. Try to give as much information as possible.
An online genealogy forum for posting queries has also been set up specifically for the LOONEY family on GenForum. It can be found at the following address:
***Note***During the Fall of 1998, GenForum combined with Family Tree Maker, which means that all queries and information posted to that site becomes the property of Family Tree Maker. This is still a good site to look up information and get contact names for the LOONEY lines you are searching, but be advised that if you now post a new query or a response to something on that site, chances are that sometime in the future Family Tree Maker will include that information on a CD-ROM which they will sell for profit to anyone who is interested. I do not like the idea of someone else using my hard researched information and ideas and selling them for a profit without my knowledge. This same practice is evident on all of the Family Tree Maker pages which are found on the internet, if you will read the disclaimer notices on those pages. I recommend the Family Tree Maker pages as good look up pages, but I don't recommend posting information there. Similar things can be said for Ancestry.com and MyFamily.com which are connected to each other and seek to make a profit from genealogical materials on the internet.
Some other Looney researchers and web sites include:
Note: Eddie Davis is a descendant of Benjamin Vaughan who made an affidavit regarding his Indian blood. Benjamin was a son of Nancy Callicott, daughter of Beverly Callicott. Nancy Callicott married John Vaughan, son of William Patrick Vaughan. He also lives in Springfield, Missouri (where I live), and he is researching the Benton & Looney connections to the Vaughans.
