O'Kelly appears to be a Scotch-Irish name as is Garvin, McEver, and some of the other names I am tracing.
I have a book called Four O'Kelly Sons by Alethia Jane Macon, which covers an O'Kelly family in Georgia that lived near mine, but I cannot find a link to that family. However those "other" O'Kellys intermarried with the Dodson and Stamps families which are related to my Rose and Dodson families, so I am connected to those other O'Kellys, but so far not through the O'Kelly line.
On some of the census records in Georgia and Mississippi, it appears that some of this family dropped the "O" from their name. In some cases this may have just been a scribal error or misunderstanding on the part of the census takers. But relatives in Mississippi say that family members there actually did drop the "O" from their name. Also, many times in my own branch of the family the name is spelled O'Kelley. I have just recently (January 1999) learned of my connection to the Redwine family of Georgia. The Redwines intermarried frequently with the Ballinger, Sartain, Bond, Wade, and other families of Georgia and Mississippi, so it is no wonder that I found this connection to the Redwines. Hopefully this will help me to find out more about the O'Kellys.
Here is my O'KELLEY lineage as far as is proven:

Post a query (or information from any one of the above categories) on any OKELLY name or related family. Please give dates, and locations they lived. Try to give as much information as possible.
An online genealogy forum for posting queries has also been set up specifically for the OKELLY family on GenForum. It can be found at the following address:
***Note***During the Fall of 1998, GenForum combined with Family Tree Maker, which means that all queries and information posted to that site becomes the property of Family Tree Maker. This is still a good site to look up information and get contact names for the OKELLY lines you are searching, but be advised that if you now post a new query or a response to something on that site, chances are that sometime in the future Family Tree Maker will include that information on a CD-ROM which they will sell for profit to anyone who is interested. I do not like the idea of someone else using my hard researched information and ideas and selling them for a profit without my knowledge. This same practice is evident on all of the Family Tree Maker pages which are found on the internet, if you will read the disclaimer notices on those pages. I recommend the Family Tree Maker pages as good look up pages, but I don't recommend posting information there. Similar things can be said for Ancestry.com and MyFamily.com which are connected to each other and seek to make a profit from genealogical materials on the internet.
