Thanks to my cousin, Don Sweaney, who moved to Springfield, Missouri (where I live) in 1998, I have recently (1999 and 2000) found some new leads on my Wegner and Miller and related families. His latest find is my connection to the CONRADT and PLACK families. He ordered some microfilms of church and civil records for Karnitz and Hoff in Pommern which contain valuable information on my Wegner family.

My earliest known PLACK ancestor is Catharina PLACK, who lived lived at Neides, Kreis Greifenberg, Pommern in the mid-1700s and married David CONRADT. This is a fairly rare spelling. One other researcher of records in Pommern has an ancestor named PLACK who is also from Kreis Greifenberg. She is Edna Pieper Cherney. Her ancestor was Dorothea Plack, born about 1713 and was married to Hans Peter Mintzlaff. They lived in the area of Carnitz/Karnitz, Greifenberg, Pommern.

No doubt there are some variant spellings of the name, especially with the change in boundary lines and ethnic control over regions of Eastern Europe in the last 200 years. I'm not sure what any of the variant spellings would be. PLACK seems to be a rare surname.
