The Revolutionary War Ancestors of Glenn Gohr

Ever since learning about the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Sons of the American Revolution while doing my genealogy research which began in 1973, I wanted to document my descent from at least one Revolutionary War patriot and to join the lineage society for men called the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.

I joined the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution on August 6, 1981 and became a charter member of the Ozark Mountain Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution located in Springfield, Missouri. The original ancestor I proved my lineage back to was James Gilliam, an ensign from Virginia. Since that time I have proven 11 other Revolutionary War patriots as my ancestors for supplemental lines on file at the National Headquarters of the Sons of the American Revolution, located in Louisville, Kentucky.

My 12 proven Revolutionary War ancestors are:

Nathan BOND, Sr. (ca. 1734 - April 1815), Patriot, VA (father of Richard Cox Bond, Sr.)

Richard Cox BOND, Sr. (ca. 1760 - 31 Jan. 1837), Minuteman, VA

Rev. Thomas DODSON (ca. 1709 - bef. 21 Oct. 1783), Patriot, VA (father of Thomas "2nd Fork" Dodson)

Thomas "2nd Fork" DODSON (3 Oct. 1728 - 1811), Patriot, VA (father-in-law of Moses Hanks)

James GILLIAM (ca. 1750 - 15 June 1821), Ensign from VA

    Moses HANKS (15 July 1746 - 19 Aug. 1831), Patriot, VA

David HARRIS (ca. 1701 - aft. 1781), Patriot, VA (father of Lewis Harris and brother of John Harris)

John HARRIS (ca. 1704 - Dec. 1786), Patriot, VA (father-in-law of Lewis Harris and brother of David Harris)

Lewis HARRIS (1730 - June 1784), Patriot, VA

William LITTLEFIELD, II (16 May 1756 - 15 Oct. 1836), Private in SC Militia

John McEVER (Dec. 1739 - ca. 1807), Private, PA

Joseph NEVILLE, Sr. (ca. 1707 - aft. 1792), Patriot, VA (father-in-law of Thomas "2nd Fork" Dodson)

Some other Revolutionary War ancestors that I know I am descended from but which lack primary documentation on at least one of the generations include:

Simon BRIGHT (? - 28 Nov. 1835), soldier from NC & was pensioned. His first wife's name is unknown (my ancestor). His second wife was Nancy Brown. He lived in Chatham Co., NC.

Elijah WILLIAMSON (11 Feb. 1755 - 29 Sept. 1837), soldier from SC & was pensioned. He married Sarah Reed and died at Buncombe Co., NC. He is buried in the Williamson-Patton Cemetery, Naples, Henderson Co., NC.

William WORTH (27 Nov. 1694 - 16 Oct. 1780), patriot from Massachusetts. He married Mary Butler and died at Nantucket Island, Nantucket Co., MA

I have been working on helping others of my relatives join both the SAR and DAR through our common Revolutionary War ancestors.
