WILLIAMS GENEALOGY
Compiled by Glenn Gohr

My earliest Williams connection is one Robert Williams who lived in Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. I have been unable to determine his parentage or very much about him. He is believed to be buried on the Stephen Williams farm (his son) in Maury County, Tennessee. Much of what information I have on this family comes from other Hanks researchers, notably Gladys Hanks Johnson and Bill Randolph. Bill Randolph has supplied me with family group sheets of most of the descendants of Robert Williams and Elizabeth Hanks. There is much intermarriage of the Williams descendants with others of my McNairy County, Tennessee families. Robert Williams, Jr., a brother of my Agatha (Williams) Woolverton was a prominent and early citizen of McNairy County, Tennessee.

There are also some WILLIAMS intermarriages in my family, but I do not know of any connection with these other Williamses. My Aunt Theola Harris, the youngest daughter of James David Harris, married Dearn Dennison "Dennis" WILLIAMS (1921-1989) as her second husband. Also my Aunt Avie Harris, another daughter of James David Harris, married Benjamin TILLMAN WILLIAMS (1901-1994), son of Lewis Martin Williams and Mary Jane Bennett. Uncle Tillman Williams also had a sister, Sarah Elizabeth Williams, who married William Lee Robinson. They were parents of Roscoe Lee Robinson who married cousin Verona Hix, daughter of Aunt Patie Harris Hix, another daughter of James David Harris.

Another dear cousin is Peggy (Lumpkin) Williams who married Al Williams. Peggy's mother was Lillie PEARL (Harris) Lumpkin, a daughter of Uncle Willie Harris, who was a brother of James David Harris.

Here is my WILLIAMS lineage:

An online genealogy forum for posting queries has also been set up specifically for the WILLIAMS family on GenForum. It can be found at the following address:

    http://genforum.familytreemaker.com/williams

***Note***During the Fall of 1998, GenForum combined with Family Tree Maker, which means that all queries and information posted to that site becomes the property of Family Tree Maker. This is still a good site to look up information and get contact names for the WILLIAMS lines you are searching, but be advised that if you now post a new query or a response to something on that site, chances are that sometime in the future Family Tree Maker will include that information on a CD-ROM which they will sell for profit to anyone who is interested. I do not like the idea of someone else using my hard researched information and ideas and selling them for a profit without my knowledge. This same practice is evident on all of the Family Tree Maker pages which are found on the internet, if you will read the disclaimer notices on those pages. I recommend the Family Tree Maker pages as good look up pages, but I don't recommend posting information there. Similar things can be said for Ancestry.com and MyFamily.com which are connected to each other and seek to make a profit from genealogical materials on the internet.
