Michael Whitmer, Peter Whitmer and Ulrich Whitmer, apparently brothers, arrived in America 28th, 8th month, 1733 in a group of 84 Palatine families (286 individuals), according to "Thirty Thousand Names of Immigrants."  They came from Rotterdam, The Netherlands via Cowles on the ship "Hope" out of London, Captain Dan Reid, master.

Isaac Widmer, Rudolph Widmer and Hans Jacob Widmer, apparently brothers, arrived in America 15th, 8th month, 1750 aboard the ship "Royal Union" from Rotterdam, via Cowles, according to "Thirty Thousand Names of Immigrants."

CHEROKEE COUNTY, ALABAMA====

 

 

Fielding Calloway Whitmire was born in Cherokee County in 1858.  He was married about 1890 to Annie Ella Stephenson who was born in Montgomery County, Texas in 1874.  In 1896 and in 1906 he was Santa Fe Railway station agent at Lometa, Texas, according to Lampasas County, Texas Probate Birth Books P3 and P5. 

 

He was enumerated as the head of a household in the 1900 census of Lampasas County, Enumeration District 105, page 1, precinct 3:

 

        "Whitmire, Fielden      41, born March 1859 in Alabama

                   Annie        25, born October 1874 in Texas

                   Bernard       6, born July 1893 in Texas

                   Merle         4, born February 1896 in Texas"

Annie Ella Stephenson Whitmire died December 26, 1910, according to Lampasas County Probate Book 7, pages 30, 61 and 62.  She left a community property estate of $1,800 which included a residence in Lometa, formerly Montvale, Texas.  Children were listed as: "Bernard L. Whitmire, 18; Merle B. Whitmire, 15 and Clyde P. Whitmire, 5."

Bernard Lyle Whitmire, son of Fielding Calloway Whitmire and Annie Ella Stephenson Whitmire, was born in Texas in July 1893.  He appeared in his father's household in the 1900 and 1910 enumerations of Lampasas County.  He died June 29, 1937 in Wichita County, Texas, according to Texas BVS File 34106.

 

Merle Bernice Whitmire, daughter of Fielding Calloway Whitmire and Annie Ella Stephenson Whitmire, was born February 23, 1896.  She appeared in the 1900 and 1910 enumerations of her father's household and was mentioned as a 15-year-old in her mother's probate in 1901.

 

Clyde Powell Whitmire, son of Fielding Calloway Whitmire and Annie Ella Stephenson Whitmire, was born March 24, 1906, according to Lampasas County Birth Book 1, page 39.  His birth was recorded as "Phildon Whitmire, Jr, son of Phildon Whitmire, of German descent, but his name was changed after the birth was registered.

John Anderson Whitmire was born September 28, 1835 in Georgia.  He was married about 1860, wife's name Lucinda Abigail.  She was born October 12, 1842.  In 1865 they lived in Marshall County.  He appeared as the head of a household in the 1880 census of Red River County, Texas, Enumeration District 106, page 13, precinct 8.  The family was rendered as:

Lucinda Abigail Whitmire died January 6, 1895, and he was remarried to Alice Ella Moore.  John Anderson Whitmire died December 12, 1899 and was buried beside Lucinda Abigail Whitmire at Box Elder, Texas.  Nan Hill, "1849-1930" is buried in an adjacent grave.

 

"Mrs. Alice I. Whitmire, widow of John Anderson Whitmire," of Red River County received Confederate Pension No. 47536, according to Texas pension records.  He served in Company C, Thirty-first Alabama Infantry Regiment.

  Mrs. Alice Ella Moore Whitmire was enumerated as the head of a household in the 1900 census of Red River County, Enumeration District 114, page 3, precinct 8:

James Willard Whitmire, son of John A. Whitmire and Lucinda Whitmire, was born February 1, 1865 in Marshall County.  He is believed to be "James D. Whitmire" in the 1880 census.  He was married about 1895, wife's name Nannie L.

 

He appeared as the head of a household in the 1900 census of Hill County, Texas:

John Gordon Whitmire, son of James Willard Whitmire and Nannie L. Whitmire, was born in December 1895.  He was enumerated in the 1900 census of Hill County as a five-year-old.  A daughter, Mary Alice Whitmire, was born to him about 1920.  She was married about 1940, husband's name Stiles.

 

James Knox Whitmire, son of James Willard Whitmire and Nannie L. Whitmire, was born in October 1897.  He appeared as a two-year-old in the 1900 census of Hill County. He died in 1949 at age 53.  Children born to him include:

Onnie Frank Whitmire, son of James Willard Whitmire and Nannie L. Whitmire, was born in 1902.  He died in 1965 at age 63.  Children born to him include:

Fred Willard Whitmire, son of James Willard Whitmire and Nannie L. Whitmire, was born in 1904.  He died in December 1918 at age 14.

 

Lorraine W. Whitmire, daughter of James Willard Whitmire and Nannie L. Whitmire, was born in 1905.  In 1968 she lived in Miami, Florida.

 

Ceral Irma Whitmire, daughter of James Willard Whitmire and Nannie L. Whitmire, was born in 1906.  She was married about 1926, husband's name Wakely.  She died in 1963 at age 57.  One son was born to them.

 

Vera Olivia Whitmire, daughter of James Willard Whitmire and Nannie L. Whitmire, was born in 1910.  In 1968 she lived in Ft. Worth, Texas.

 

Verna Emily Whitmire, daughter of James Willard Whitmire and Nannie L. Whitmire, was born in 1913.  In 1968 she lived in Ft. Worth.

 

Lucas R. Whitmire, son of John Anderson Whitmire and Lucinda Abigail Whitmire, was born in 1868 in Alabama.  He appeared as a 12-year-old in the 1880 census of Red River County.  It is believed that he was the Dr. L. R. Whitmire who was buried in Cuthand Cemetery, Red River County.

 

Lilly Whitmire, daughter of John Anderson Whitmire and Lucinda Abigail Whitmire, was born in 1887 in Alabama.  She appeared at age 13 living in the home of her brother-in-law Isaiah L. Lawson in the 1900 census of Red River County, Enumeration District 114, page 6, precinct 8.

Tempy Ann Bates Whatley Whitmire died there in January 1908.

 

Eugene C. Whitmire was born in April 1869.  He was recorded as an 11-year-old in the 1880 enumeration of his father's household in 1880 in Panola County.  He was enrolled in Male  Female Institute at Cold Springs, Texas in Polk County in 1881.

 

He appeared as the head of his own household in the 1900 census of Rusk County, Texas, Enumeration District 86, page 12:

Eugenia M. Whitmire was born in 1871.  She died December 12, 1919 in Bell County, according to Texas BVS File 34011.

 

James H. Whitmire was born in 1873.  He was married about 1900, wife's name Ozella. He was enumerated in the 1910 census of Bell County as the head of a household. Included in their household were Elmore Whitmire, a step-son who was born in 1907, James M. Whitmire, a son who was born in 1908 and Tempia Whitmire who was born in 1910.

 

Jerome Ross Whitmire was born February 10, 1874 in Panola County.  He was married at Water Valley, Texas to Daisie May Robinson.  He died August 24, 1950 in Pecos, Texas. Children born to Jerome Ross Whitmire and Daisie May Robinson Whitmire are unknown.

 

Emmett C. Whitmire was born in 1878.  He died unmarried in Panola County.

 

Robert E. Lee Whitmire, son of James Madison Whitmire and Tempie Ann Bates Whatley Whitmire, was born in 1879.  He appeared as the head of a household in the 1900 census of Panola County, Enumeration District 73, page 22. precinct 8. He was married about 1903, wife's name Ruth.

 

He appeared as the head of a household in the 1910 census of Panola County, Enumeration District 130, page 307:

One report states that he lived in Panola County, Texas in 1917 and that he was married to Artie Mae Henderson in Jefferson County, Texas.  He died at Nacogdoches, Texas.

 

Jerome W. Campbell, Box 175, Anadarko, Oklahoma wrote July 8, 1970 to Mary Alnora "Nora" Cox Drennan (D2/10.4) that he was a great-grandson of James Madison Whitmire.
