William Stewart and Jessie Lee (Alford) Fain

My Maternal Grandfather was William Stewart FAIN, b. Dec. 10, 1888 in Murchison, Henderson Co., Texas.  His father & mother were Dr. William Harris FAIN, b. Jan. 1855, in Catahoula Parish, Catahoula, LA, & Eugenia Evelyn DARDEN, b. Feb. 1861 in Henderson Co., TX.  My Grandfather's father died either shortly before or after my Grandfather's birth.  Two years later my Great Grandmother, Eugenia, remarried a man named "Nig" Corley in Henderson Co.  From Henderson Co., TX, they moved to Young Co., TX where my Grandfather lived the most of his life.  He worked as a pumper for many years for the Texaco Oil Co., & later as a carpenter.  He also served as a Medic in the Army during the first World War.  Much of his enlistment was spent in France.

My Maternal Grandmother was Jessie Lee ALFORD, b. Oct. 18, 1896 in Graham, Young Co., TX. She lived almost her entire life in Young Co., TX.  For a short time they lived in neighboring Archer Co.   Her parents were James Hamilton ALFORD, b. Dec. 1837 in Marshall Co., TN, & Amelia Brittain BRIM ALFORD, b. Feb 3, 1856 in Chapel Hill, Marshall Co., TN.  James was in the 10th & 11th Confederate Cavalry (Homan's Battalion).  He served for four years with the last several months of his enlistment being held as a prisoner of war.  He was paroled in Apr. 1865 in Gainesville, AL.  They came to Young Co., TX in Dec. 1877 from Chapel Hill.  Along with them came Amelia's parents, George P. BRIM & Dolly Horner FERGUSON BRIM.  James & Amelia also had two babies with them on the trip.  Their first born, Ada, abt 18 months old, died on the way, somewhere around Dallas, TX.  I think the reason that they all came to Graham was that Amelia's brother, John Ferguson BRIM, a young bachelor attorney had come to Graham a year or so ahead of them.  He had fallen in love with TX as evidenced by letters that he wrote to relatives (the letters are now in the TN. State Archives ).  He was the County Attorney for Young Co. about 1880.
