upon the same, etc. 350 acres due by the decease of their
father, John Dennis, who pattented it September 15, 1649;

David Spiller. His will was recorded in
Northumberland County, Virginia, on October 21, 1658.
He stated "I give my whole estate to be equally
divided between my sons, John Swanson [he apparently
married a Swanson widow, before Barbara],
Richard Dennis, Pasco Dennis, and John Dennis, excepting
one cow called Florence, which I also give my youngest son
John Dennis. I give unto Susanna Holling, my brother's child,
a cow. Tobacco to James Magregory. Witnessed by Thomas
Gascogne and John Taylor.

"Aug. 1, 1750, Joseph Ward, of Amelia County, for 40 currency
conveys to John Adkins, of Lunenburg County, 150 acres on lower
side of Little Roanoke River" (recorded in Lunenburg Records,
Deed Book 2, p. 158)
We find the Creighton family and the Adkins family with court
records in Halifax and Lunenburg Co. Virginia. John Adkins
sold land to Hugh Creighton. Hugh C. married his daughter
Mary Adkins.

Richard is in the Circuit Court Clerk's entry with his
brothers also listed. This entry is giving land
to the children of John Jr.Dennis .. "the land of their
father,". The children are In this settlement of
his fathers estate and in the Will of the 2nd husband
of his mother, David Spiller. Both are in the
generation above
He probably is the Richard with land in early Lunenburg Co,
Virginia. This
settlement has a son, Richard Jr. These records are
important because Richard's land deeds in
Lunenburg Co. Va. have the same dates as our records of
Hugh Creighton and John Adkins in Lunenburg County.
Richard Jr. probably did not move to South Carolina with
the other families. He has land records
after 1810 in Lunenburg Co. Virginia. His father and
other family members appear in Newberry
Co. S.C. at this time. There were several other children
of Richard Dennis.
Richard also has a son "John Dennis" listed in the settlement.
I have a copy of this settlement.

died age 33 when his son was born.
