ARRANGEMENT of DATA

JAMES CHAUDOIN, was born 06 January 1795 Virginia, the eldest child of David CHAUDOIN & Mary DAVID. He married Mary [--?--] or Ann [--?--] (perhaps RANKIN). James wife appears to have died sometime after 1831, but before James. James, a widower, died 29 October 1837 near Jasper, Marion County, Tennessee. He was the father of seven known children: Dr. Calvin Morgan CHAUDOIN; Martha D. CHAUDOIN; Emily Jane CHAUDOIN; Mary E. CHAUDOIN; David Franklin CHAUDOIN; Sarepta C. CHAUDOIN, & Louisa Caroline CHAUDOIN.
(Information from R. S. Sanders & David H. Chaudoin)

According to Gloria Cowan Smith, "James C. Chaudoin never married a Mary Morse, but did (m) Anne Rankin." She states Anne was dau/o David Rankin of NC [one of the heroes of the Kings Mountain Battle during the Revolutionary War] and Margaret A. Campbell, dau/o William Campbell, Sr. [also in the Kings Mountain Battle]. She states James C. is buried in Marion County, TN, but Ann is buried in Green Co., TN. [There is no Green Co., TN, but is a Greene Co., TN, so perhaps Gloria meant Green Co., KY.] Gloria states that Anne's parents are also buried there. James C. Chaudoin served in the War of 1812 with General Jackson in Louisiana. Gloria states that "he received a warrent (sic) for the land in Marion Co., [TN], but never moved until after Ann's death. He might have married again, but it seems as thou (sic) he was buried in Whitwell and the others are buried in other places.

However, others research shows differently. If Anne died and was buried in KY or Greene Co., TN, then surely James remarried, as his last daughter was born 1830 or 1831. Numerous RANKINs also reside in Marion Co., TN and appear to interact with James and his family.
In 1819 James became the first Postmaster of Jasper, Marion County, Tennessee. He served from 16 April 1819 unti 15 February 1821. He served again from 14 May 1823 until his death on 29 October 1837.
