CASPER4 CREAGER, s/o Johann Christian3 CREAGER and Anna Mary ABOLINA, was born abt. 1763 in Frederick County, Maryland. He married 2 April 1809 to Anna Barbara SCHMIDT/SMITH, dau/o Adam SCHMIDT/SMITH. They like many of this CREAGER family line were members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church.


DAR Magazine, Feb. 1958, Vol. 92, No. 2, p. 174:
In a list of men of an age to have served in the Revolutionary War, but whose names are not found in the "Roster, Revolutionary Soldiers Buried in Ohio", under Warren County, is found the following:
Creager, Casper, b 1763, d May 29, 1847.

Sons: Adam, Solomon, and Christian William were born in Maryland. Other children: Ezra, David, John, Sophia, Daniel, and Mary born in Warren County, Ohio.

Adam Creager, farmer, sold to Casper Creager, yoeman, for 120� [sterling], a lot in the town of Liberty, on the w. side of a draught of Linganore called Piney Run, part of a tract called "Duke's Woods", beginning at a stone on the n. side of Main street marked No. 56....

Dated Apr. 18, 1795, recorded May 4, 1795.
Casper Creager sold to Jacob Shriner, for 150� [sterling], a lot in Libertytown beginning at a stone on the n. side of the main street marked No. 56. Wife not mentioned.

Casper Creager and Barbara Smith were issued a marriage license in Frederick County, Maryland. (Frederick County, Marriage License Record)

"Casper CREAGER & Barbara SMITH, 2 Apr 1809, in bride's father's house, by license, in presence of many people."
The date of this marriage is given as Apr. 2, 1809 in the translations of the records of the Frederick Lutheran Church at the MD Historical Society.)

Casper and Barbara (Smith) Creager were natives of Maryland. In 1813 they, with three children, came to Ohio and settled in Warren Co., near Franklin.

The will of Adam SMITH, probated 1824, mentions daughter Barbara Creager. According to records of Rocky Hill Church she was born Nov. 21, 1783, but the record of her death (above) would place her birth about 1779.

Know all men by the presents, that we Christian William Creager and Susan his wife, Solomon Creager and Eliza his wife, David Creager and Catherine his wife, Daniel Creager, and Robert W. Martin and Mary Ann Martin his wife (heirs of the late Caspar Creager deceased) of the County of Warren and State of Ohio, for and in consideration of the sum of Six thousand Seven hundred and fifty Dollars in hand paid by Joseph A. Brown of the County and State aforesaid the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged do hereby bargain, revise, release and forever quit claim with the said Joseph A. Brown his heirs and assign forever all our title, interest and estate, legal and equitable, in the following premises situated in the Township of Franklin, County of Warren, State of Ohio, and bounded and described as follows, towit. On hundred and fifty Acres of land on the East side of the South West quarter of Section Number twenty Six, Township two, Range 5 between the Miami Rivers, Together with all the improvements and appurtenances therewith belonging, To Have and To Hold the same to the said Joseph A. Brown his heirs and assigns forever. In Testimony Whereof we the said heirs above named have herewith set our hands and seals this Twentieth day of March eighteen hundred and forty nine as Signed, Sealed and acknowledged

Warren County SS. Before A. D. Reeder Mayor of the Town of Franklin in and for said County personally appeared Christian W. Creager and Susan his wife, Solomon Creager and Eliza his wife, David Creager and Catherine his wife, Daniel Creager, and Robert W. Martin and Mary Ann his wife and acknowledged the signing and sealing of the within deed of quit claim to be their voluntary act and deed. And the said Susan wife of the said Christian W., Eliza wife of the said Solomon, Catherine, and Mary Ann wife of said Robert W. Martin being at the same time examined by me in private and apart from their said husbands and the contents of said instrument made known to them by me they then declared that they did voluntary sign, seal and acknowledge the same, and that they are still satisfied therewith, this 12th day of April eighteen hundred and fifty.

From various sources we have these known or believed children:
  1. Adam Creager b 1809 Frederick Co., Maryland. Indicated in family records as the oldest, but no vital record given to validate his birth or death. Apparently deceased by 1820 U.S. Federal Census.
  2. Solomon Creager b 1810 Maryland; m 1845 Warren Co., OH to Eliza Ann Austin. Apparently later divorced as divorce appears in Warren Co., OH Records. Nothing more is known of Solomon.
  3. Christian William Creager b 1812 Maryland; m 1841 Montgomery Co., OH to Susan Dolan; d 1892 Montgomery Co., OH
  4. Ezra Creager said born abt. 1816 in Warren Co., OH, but no vital record given to validate his birth and date.
  5. David Creager b 1816 Warren Co., OH; m 1848 Warren Co., OH to Catherine WAGGONER; d 1868 Darke Co., OH [See: GREGG-CREAGER FAMILY]
  6. John Creager said born abt. 1820 in Warren Co., OH, but no vital record given to validate his birth and date.
  7. Sophia Creager said born abt. 1822 in Warren Co., OH, but no vital record given to validate her birth and date.
  8. Daniel Creager b abt. 1824, m Agnes Jackson 1855 Warren Co., OH. Nothing more is known of this couple.
  9. Mary Ann Creager b ca 1825 Warren Co., OH; m 1846 Warren Co., OH to Robert W. Martin. Nothing more is known of this couple.
