CLIPPINGS IN AN OLD SCRAPBOOK

FROM THE WEST ALEXANDRIA AND BROOKVILLE STAR PAPERS
KEPT BY MRS. WILLIAM (LYDIA) CREAGER

(still in possession of Myra Creager Lange)

West Alexandria, August 4 [No year given.]
Eddie Creiger, age about five years, a son of Wm. Creiger, of this place, had his leg broken between the knee and thigh by being run over by a horse. The boy was lying in a yard in which the horse was grazing. (Notice spelling of last name.)

[No date indicated.]
Ed Creager is back at his old stand tieing up groceries after an enforced vacation. Last Thursday evening, while scuffling, his feet slipped from under him and he fell, striking his elbow on the cement sidewalk, bruising and lacerating the flesh, leaving him with a very sore arm for the past week.

[No date indicated.]
While Ed Creager and Harry Bope and Misses Jennie Potter and Maud Lesh were out sleighing last Friday evening, to make it more exciting, they concluded to have a run-a-way. At the time they took that notion, they were on East Second Street (West Alexandria). Creager furnished the horse and the father of one of the girls the sleigh, and the horse imagining he had had exercise enough, started down an alley for home. When they reached the curbing, the occupants were piled out in the snow in a heap. The horse then decided he would have some fun all by himself and ran up an alley to the school building, but he was having so much fun he didnt see the iron fence and knocked down a couple of rods of it. The boys picked themselves up and started in pursuit. Bope returned almost breathless and reported the horse as being in the school yard almost dead, but investigation proved the supposed horse which he had examined to be a large stone. The bed of the sleigh was found where he had gone through the iron fence, the runners in George Copps field and the horse and shafts near the depot. Creager was the first to discover the real horse. The shafts had been crossed in the round and Creager was so excited that he imagined both of them had been forced through the animals body!
