In this letter, James talks about sending his wife a watch, but in a later letter we learn he finds a need for it. Did she ever receive the watch intended for her? And...in this letter he mentions "herman." Herman is Herman/Harmon A. Reinnecke/Reinecke, James brother-in-law, who was married to James's sister, Elmira. Herman/Harmon was mortally wounded on a battlefield.

James mentions "Aunt Sally." Sally appears to have been Sarah "Sally" (Dunham) Waltz (wf/o Daniel Waltz). Sally was a sister to James Dunham (Sr.). Both James (Sr.) & Sally were children of Ross Dunham & Sarah "Sallie" Roll. ash]
