Emphasis in this lineage is on the descendants of
JOSEPH DUNHAM & MARY "POLLY" MILLER
from New Jersey to Hamilton County, Ohio & Miami County, Ohio.

It is not known if Joseph & Mary ventured into other Ohio counties, but records have been left by them & their descendants in Hamilton Co., Miami Co., Darke Co., & Clark Co., OH. This information is placed on this homepage in an effort to make contact with descendants or relatives of family members who might be able to furnish additional information or provide corrections to data herein. This descendancy list is still in its infancy and thus much needs to be proven & documented. Help would be very much appreciated. Family photos are also appreciated.

As Jonathan Singletary, Jonathan married abt 1657 in Haverhill, Essex County, Massachusetts to Mary Bloomfield, daughter of Thomas Bloomfield and Mary Withers. With a move to Woodbridge, Middlesex County, New Jersey came a change in surname for Jonathan Singletary and his family to DUNHAM. Jonathan and Mary became the parents of 13 known children.

Hannah is NOT Hannah Conger, who married another 5th generation descendant also named Joseph Dunham of Westfield, Union Co., New Jersey, whose descendants went to Warren County, Ohio.

Joseph died 27 December 1776, leaving his widow, Hannah, with child. This unborn child became Abraham Davis(6) Dunham and was baptized 1777. Hannah thus appears in church records and tax rateables as "the Widdow/Widow Dunham." Hannah died 20 November 1781. Joseph is buried at the Westfield Presbyterian Church Cemetery (aka the Colonial Cemetery), Westfield, New Jersey (Plot 191, Grave 28, Row M), and Hannah, his wife is buried beside him (Plot 192, Grave 28, Row M).

Joseph Dunham married 5 June 1785 to Mary "Polly" Miller at the Presbyterian Church, Westfield, Union County, New Jersey. They are believed by this researcher (at this time) to be the parents of 13 children, namely: Moses, Ross, Hannah #1 who died, Asa, Benjamin, James, Sarah Conkling, Hannah #2, Mary, Hettie, Joseph Bernard/Barnard, Enoch Miller, & David Freeman.

James DUNHAM, Sr. was in the Civil War and returned to Darke Co., OH. Little is known about his wife, Anna Sands. Anna was dau/o George Sands & Mary Born (aka Burns) of Miami Co., OH. She was gdau/o Henry Born/Burns, Sr.

Henry was a millwright and carpenter, who died in Civil War, but was buried in the MARTIN Family Cemetery.

Sara was dau/o John MARTIN. After Henry's death, Sara m #2 ??? WESTFALL.

Died during Civil War at Andersonsville Prison, GA, where he is buried. His Civil War records, letters home, and pension records for his wife and children are linked at his site.

Gravestone says died 1855, but she was alive in July 1856 Census & living in Iowa. She is bur Koszta Cemetery, Koszta, IA. Married 10 Sep 1829 Miami Co., OH to John ELLIOTT. Family moved to Iowa Co., Iowa in fall of 1849, settling two miles east of Koszta.  Researcher of this family: May 2000, Information from Carol BUCK of Stillwater, MN.
