HUGUENOT BEGINNINGS for the LE BOITEAUXs / LEBOYTEAUXs in America
The paper below indicates that Gabriel Laboyteaux married April 1689 to Marquiese Fleuriau; was a rich merchant in New York City; paid a large amount of taxes there, and attended the French Church of New York City.
John Laboyteaux is named as Gabriel's grandson, who also resided in New York; was a tailor by trade; married Hannah Smith; attended the Presbyterian Church where his children were baptized. The paper alludes to the fact that John spent his life there but never gained in political or economic prominence as his Huguenot grandfather. The article fails to indicate that this was the John Laboyteaux whose life was cut short when he died at 40 years of age aboard the ship Aurora during the Revolutionary War leaving his widow to rear their ten known children.
