  1. Rev. Newman indicates, "Later in life each one somehow acquired the additonal name of John thus Peter John Lab[oyteaux] and John J(Joseph) Lab[oyteaux]. They were christened merely Peter and Joseph." However, as Rev. Newman states, it is not known the reason for using the name of "John" with their family given name. Dutch naming patterns of years ago always included the father's name with the child's name before there was such a thing for them as a surname. Such would have been in Dutch to English: Jans Pieterze = John s/o Peter or Pieter Janzen = Peter s/o John. Because they belonged to the Dutch Churches perhaps this was tradition that in some way their father's name became a part of their family given name. ash
  2. Is the First & Second Presbyterian Church two different churches or just one? Arlene Wimmer Hill thinks it is just one church.
  3. Does anyone have a copy of the original records as they appear in the First & Second Presbyterian Church as indicated? It would be great to see exactly how the records are written for John, Paul and Joseph...all having children baptized in the church about the same time.
  4. It is believed by others that John was (Capt.) John Laboyteaux, a tailer in New York City, who during the Revolutionary War moved his family to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was the captain of the privateer Aurora.
  5. Rev. Newman gives no sources and dates for when he was referring to the John living in Philadelphia. This could very well be the same (Capt.) John Laboyteaux who took his family there.
  6. At this time it appears that (Capt.) John, Paul, and Joseph were brothers. Other siblings are considered at this time to have been Peter, Gabriel, and Marya (Mary or Maria).
  7. It is not known the reason/source for naming a possible s/o Joseph Laboyteaux and Catherine Sickles as "perhaps a William." The other children given for both Paul and Joseph appear to be correct.
  8. Rev. Newman appears to be placing "John G." as John Gabriel, the Gabriel baptized 8 Feb 1770, s/o (Capt.) John Laboyteaux & Hannah Smith.
  9. Rev. Newman mentions "...another Gabriel floating around who married a FitzAlan in 1772 and died in the 1790's intestate." This may have been Gabriel Laboyteaux b abt. 1735 who married Mary Fitz Randolph in 1772. Rev. Newman gives no source.
  10. Rev. Newman mentions, "I also have the intestate admin. of another John who died in the 1790's and who he was, I don't know." Again, no source is given.
  11. Other researchers and I believe Rev. Newman' theory is correct in that the father of Peter J. and John J. was JOHN LABOYTEAUX who died 10 October 1794 in New York, and that his wife was Phebe (the wife, the widow, and the "relict of John") who was buried in Laboyteaux-Cary Cemetery in Hamilton Co., OH where Phebe, Peter J. and John J., appear after John's death. It is not known why this John died so young, as his death occurred sometime after the Revolutionary War. However, if Phebe received a land grant in Hamilton Co., OH, perhaps it was compensation for her husband's service during the Revolutionary War. 12. Who was the "Peter who was made an elector of Piscataway in 1750 and [17]52"?
