It appears that Phebe [--?--], widow of John Laboyteaux (1764-1794 NY) died in Hamilton Co., OH...not New York, as previously believed. At this time, it appears that Phebe, the widow/relict, and her fatherless sons (Peter John & John Joseph) came to Ohio with other Laboyteaux in-laws and their families and perhaps even some of her own family. Since we do not know Phebe's maiden name, there could be the possibility that some of her family also came to Hamilton Co., OH. Since we find her and her two sons in Hamilton Co., OH enumerated in 1830 in Hamilton Co., OH and her burial recorded in the cemetery records, we have to assume at this time that she died in Hamilton Co., OH where she is buried and where her sons were residing.
9 Feb 2008, Elizabeth "Beth" Zaring states: "This Phebe did not die in New York. She lived in Hamilton County and is buried in the Laboyteaux-Cary Cemetery in the College Hill area of Cincinnati, [Hamilton County], Ohio." |

[Note: This Phebe above (widow of John Laboyteaux 1764-1794 NY) who died in 1845 in Hamilton Co., OH was previously thought to be Phoebe, the wife of John G. Laboyteaux, but Phoebe, wife of John G., was not a widow or "Relict". John G. Laboyteaux was still living in 1840 and 1850, and did not die until 1853. This Phoebe given in family genealogies as the wife of John G. Laboyteaux of Hamilton Co., OH was not the widow or "relict" who died in 1845.
John G. Laboyteaux was married to Phoebe [--?--]. Her maiden name is unknown. Perhaps her maiden name was ASHER, as a son was named Asher Laboyteaux, but that is not validated. In those days it was common to assign to a son the middle name being the mother's maiden name or an ancestral surname. Nothing as yet supports ASHER as being her maiden name. Would appreciate learning her maiden name. Perhaps it was another maiden name lost in time.
1810 |
John G. Laboyteaux was married to Phoebe [--?--], who apparently left him in 1817...perhaps for a time or briefly.

There appears to have possibly been a reconciliation between John G. Laboyteaux and his Phoebe, as we find they evidently sold some lots to Peter Smith in 1826.
1826 |
Then at the time of the 1830 U. S. Federal Census it appears that John G. Laboyteaux and Phoebe, his wife, were enumerated as residing with their son, Joseph Laboyteaux and his family, unless the male and female who are in the 40-50 age bracket are someone else.

Did Phoebe die sometime between 1830-1840? John G. Laboyteaux was living alone in Owen County, Indiana by 1840 and in 1850. It appears his Phoebe [--?--] was not with him. His son, Elisha Laboyteaux, was residing nearby in Owen County, Indiana. At this time we do not know anything further about this Phoebe. If anyone has further information concerning Phoebe, wife of John G. Laboyteaux, we would be delighted to learn more.
