A number of LECKLIDERs married into the CREAGER family and their lines intermingled in various generations.

ELI D.1 LECKLIDER, possibly the youngest s/o Ludwig "Lewis" Lecklider, was born Abt. 1816 in probably Montgomery County, Ohio. Ludwig's children born in Maryland are all documented.

In the 1820, 1830 and 1840 Census, it shows a male of Eli's age living with Lewis Lecklider. Eli married 7 Nov 1838 in Darke Co., OH to (1) Jane WINGET1. The only inconsistancy is it does not show Eli's wife in the 1840 Census living with Lewis Lecklider. Jane was born 6 December 1816 in Ohio.

Jane died 24 May 1855 in probably Darke County, Ohio and was buried at the Mote Cemetery, Monroe Township, Darke County, Ohio [Cemetery Inscriptions]. Eli then married 25 Oct 1855 in Darke County, Ohio to (2) Rebecca [--?--] Sanders [probably a widow], born Abt. 1817 in Pennsylvania.

Rebecca [--?--] Sanders-Lecklider was living at the time of the 1870 U. S. Federal Census in Richland Township, Darke County, Ohio at the age of 53y. If Eli did not die until January 1871, where is he, as Rebecca appears to have control over the farm? Most of the children of Eli & (1) Jane are gone from the family except for Mary Etta who appears with her step-mother's family as Etta and also appears to be working for her aunt as Mary E.. Rebecca's son, Paul Sanders, is recorded as Paul S. Lecklader, so her son, George Sanders, has also left. The others that remain in the home are Eli's and Rebecca's two children: William and Catherine.

Eli died 12 Jan 1871 at 77y [according to cemetery inscriptions] in probably Darke County, Ohio and is buried in the Mote Cemetery, Monroe Township, Darke County, Ohio.3

[Note: The Short and Bowers book indicated that the gravestone was broken and thus, not all of the inscription could be read. Paul thinks it was either read wrong or else Eli would have been born in 1794. "If it actually said 55 instead of 77, it would make him born in 1816 which would be consistent with the Census figures." It also gave [Rebecca] wife of Eli, "Died 5-24-1855" at "38-5-18." "Part of the Mote Cemetery land was donated by a Jacob Lecklider and wife on 4 April 1868. One of the Jacob Leckliders I have who was living in Darke Co., Ohio in the 1860 Census, is Jacob Lecklider, b 1803 in Maryland. The Leckliders are very hard to follow. If Eli was born in 1794, it would probably have been in Maryland." Paul Creager] [Paul Creager: Short and Bowers, Cemetery Inscriptions Darke Co., OH, Vol. 1, p. 92]
