It appears that Christi(a)na Elizabeth may have gone by the name of Elizabeth, as she had a sister who went by Christi(a)na (COOK/KUCK) SHIELDS.

Christi(a)na "Elizabeth" was buried at Dublin (near Richmond), Wayne Co., IN along with one of her daughters, Elizabeth (MENSCH/MENCH) WITT, wife of Caleb WITT. The Witt tombstone with information about both Caleb and Elizabeth are located at Middle Cemetery, Dublin (near Richmond), Wayne Co., IN.

A SAD STORY
Christi(a)na Elizabeth COOK/KOCH first married 6 May 1797 Mason Co., KY to Adam MENSCH/MENCH. Christi(a)na and Adam lost three daughters: Catherine MENSCH, Margaret MENSCH, & Dinah MENSCH when they drowned near the mouth of the Big Miami River (?OH) on 11 or 14 Mar 1805 while crossing the river. Three years later at the same spot, on 27 Apr 1808, her husband, Adam MENSCH, drowned.

  • Elizabeth MENSCH b 20 Sep 1806; m 12 Aug 1827 Union Co., IN to Dr. Caleb W./M. WITT; members of the United Brethren Church; & d 30 Jan 1870. Dr. Caleb WITT, possibly s/o William WITT & Jane WYATT; practiced in Dublin, IN & d 20 Jan 1874.
    The Witt gravestone with information about both Caleb and Elizabeth is located at Middle Cemetery, Dublin (near Richmond), Wayne Co., IN. Dates from gravestone were difficult to interpret according to Wanita LUCAS.
    Christi(a)na (COOK/KOCH) MENSCH-MISNER, Elizabeth's mother, was buried at the same gravesite at Dublin (near Richmond), Wayne Co., IN.

  1. Abigail MISNER, b 12 Apr 1811 Butler Co., OH; m 26 Jul 1835 to John W. SMITH.

    "Death of Grandma Smith.

        Mrs. Abigail Smith, mother of Mrs. Judge Poplin, died at her daughter's home    
    on Tuesday night [NOTE:sic..."night" written over with "morn" written over it.],
    January 2d. Abigail Misner was born in Butler county, Ohio, April 12th 1811.
    When yet a child the family moved to Indiana.
    In 1835 she was united in marriage to John W. Smith, who died in 1872.
    Mrs. Smith the following year removed to Kansas, and in 1887 to California.
    When 18 years of age she united with the Methodist church
    and has since been a devoted Christian worker, much loved by all who knew her.
    THe funeral services were held at the home of Mr. Poplin
    Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. A. Graves."

Mr. Poplin stands among the leading attorneys at the bar of Anderson county, and of the firm of Johnson Poplin and Johnson. As a citizen and gentleman, he is well known and respected throughout this part of the state. His wife is one of the most highly respected ladies, who by nobleness of character has won the esteem and love of both old and young. It is a matter of universal regret thaqt his rather poor health makes their going a necessity. Their many friends wish them a hearty God-speed to their new home."
