HISTORIC
EMANUEL METHODIST CHURCH CEMETERY

HOMEPAGE

In 1827, Philemon DICKERSON, a devoutly religious farmer, organized a Methodist Society in his home. This early church thrived from its beginnings with 45 members. Eventually they began meeting in the glazing room of DENMAN's Paper Mill for religious studies, prayers, singing the Lord's praises, and fellowship with each other. Five years later, in 1832, this Methodist Society constructed its first edifice for Christian worship. In 1964, with the joining of the Springfield Methodist Church and the Emanuel Methodist Church, the church became the Springfield Emanuel United Methodist Church.
