Story and Family



JOHN CURTIS ROLL, son of Lorenzo Dow ROLL and Elizabeth CURTIS, was born 25 March 1834 in Darke County, Ohio. On 28 June 1856 Noah Arnold J.P. married John C. ROLL and Matilda "Till" SHIELDS. John C. was a farmer in Darke County, Ohio; and died 26 January 1907 in Darke County, Ohio. Matilda, dau/o Isaac M. SHIELDS & Elizabeth RUST, was born 27 December 1836 Preble County, Ohio; died 9 Oct 1914 Darke County, Ohio. Both are buried at Abbottsville Cemetery, Darke County, Ohio. They were parents of ten children.

John's father, Lorenzo Dow Roll was the son of Benjamin ROLL and Sarah CULBERTSON and the grandson of John ROLL and Mary NEVIS.

By 1910, John C. Roll is deceased and Matilda is no longer enumerated as living in Van Buren Twp., Darke County, Ohio. The remaining person in Van Buren Twp. is now the widow of Lorenzo Dow Roll, John and Matilda's eldest son. Lorenzo died in March of 1910.
