She grew to adulthood in Darke County and Miami County, Ohio with two older brothers, Leroy and Dale, and three younger siblings, namely, Lahoma, Earl, and Rea. The Shields family was a close-knit family so her playmates included her Shields and Creager cousins who lived in Greenville. The children would frequently be found at the farmhome of their grandfather, Caleb5 Shields.

They were on their way to Marshfield, Wisconsin probably to visit the McCowans? It appears this was the same time period as the pictures below. Had the McCowans moved there? Who was the driver?

Burton Earl "Whitey" Sullenberger dated Imo. Katha said, "I know that he met Mom by walking by Opal's [Opal (Creager) Kruse] house. He would stop and sing with them at the piano." Whitey was apparently friends with her older brother, Dale. The two guys appear to have been members of the same church group, sports team (possibly basketball) and they had common friends. On several occasions Katha was told by her uncle, Earl, that he would hid behind the couch "while Imo and Whitey were spooning."
