EDITH IOLA⁶ SHIELDS was the fourth child of Caleb⁵ (Patrick⁴, Isaac M.³, Patrick², Daniel¹) Shields and Hannah E. Myers. She was born 11 September 1896 probably in Darke County, Ohio. She married 25 August 1914 probably in Darke County, Ohio to Charles I. Patterson. Edith died 23 September 1976. Charles was born 21 Apr 1892 and died 21 Aug 1981. To this couple was born an only son, Richard I.⁷ Patterson in 1918. Edith and Charles are buried at Abbottsville Cemetery, Darke County, Ohio.

EDWARD D. SHIELDS, son of William SHIELDS (1840-1917) and Anna "Ann" M. HATHAWAY (1850-about 1924), was born 5 July 1868 in Van Buren Township, Darke County, Ohio. He married 5 October 1893 Darke County, Ohio to Minnie Crick (1871-1929). This marriage ended in divorce; there were two daughters of this marriage: Fern and Hazel. E. D. married 20 December 1900 Darke County, Ohio by Rev. Jacob Pantle to Laura Belle WION (aka Laura Belle EYLER). E. D. & Laura had eight children. E. D. died 29 April 1943.

ELIZABETH SHIELDS, daughter of William Henry SHIELDS and (1) Nancy REX, was born September 1830 in Preble County, Ohio. She married 30 September 1849 Preble County, Ohio to Robert RICHEY. ETHEL ESTELLA⁶ SHIELDS was the second child and eldest daughter of Caleb⁵ (Patrick⁴, Isaac M.³, Patrick², Daniel¹) Shields and Hannah E. Myers. She was born 04 October 1886 probably in Darke County, Ohio. She married 04 October 1906 probably in Darke County, Ohio to Cecil B. Cromwell. Ethel died in 1934. Cecil was born 18 December 1883 and died 10 September 1934. To this couple were born two known children: Glen Dale and Ruby Cromwell. Ethel and Cecil are buried at Abbottsville Cemetery in Darke County, Ohio.
