ARRANGEMENT of DATA

PATRICK2 SHIELDS, s/o Daniel1 Shields and Mary [--?--], was born 15 September 1784 (not aboard ship as others have claimed) in Ireland. As a lad he immigrated to America with his parents and siblings in 1791. Patrick married 16 June 1806 in Hamilton County, Ohio to his first wife, Mary FOGLE. Patrick served in the War of 1812 (Pension Records) from Butler County, Ohio. He and his family then moved to Preble County, Ohio, where Mary (Fogle) Shields died about 1833-1834. They were the parents of 10 known children. Following Mary's demise, Patrick married 19 April 1836 in Preble County, Ohio to "Salina Boyd," who was 30 years her senior. By her, Patrick begot nine other children. Patrick appears to have been an entrepreneur in many ventures through his long life. Patrick died 15 Mar 1877 at Delisle, Van Buren Township, Darke County, Ohio at the age of 93 years. Patrick was said to have been the father of 24 children although at this time only 19 are known.

PATRICK F.3 (?Fogle) SHIELDS (aka Patrick Shields, Jr.), s/o Patrick2 SHIELDS (Daniel1) and Mary FOGLE, was born 11 December 1820 Butler County or Preble County, Ohio; married 19 July 1945 Preble County, Ohio to Elizabeth GUNDER. They were married by Rev. William NEALEIGH, M.G. Elizabeth was dau/o William GUNDER and Nancy RICE. The couple resided in Preble County, Ohio. Patrick F. Shields was an auctioneer, and he was somewhat heavy in land speculation. Early deeds in Preble County give his name at least six times as Patrick Shields, Jr. It appears that he did not use the name of Patrick F. Shields until about the time his father left Preble County for Darke County. There are at least 20 or more deeds using Patrick F. Shields. Patrick F. died 04 December 1876 in Eaton, Preble County, Ohio and is buried at the Mound Hill Cemetery in Eaton. His wife, Elizabeth, was born November 1826 SW of Arcanum, Twin Township, Darke County, Ohio; died 13 February 1908. She is buried at the IOOF Cemetery, Marion, Grant County, Indiana. They were the parents of six children: Caroline, Henry, William J., Alice I., Emma, and Mary Shields.
