    CELESTINE "Celey" ZINCK

CELESTINE (aka Coelestin) "Celey" ZINCK, son of Joseph Zinck, Sr. (1787-1865) and (1) Thrse Enderlin (1788-1853), was born 6 April 1821 in Sausheim, Haut-Rhin, Alsace, France.

Celestine Zinck, his parents, and 9 year old Louisa, left the port at Le Harve, France perhaps sometime in November 1844 aboard the ship, "Queen Victoria." They immigrated to the United States arriving 10 December 1844 aboard the "Queen Victoria."

According to the site, America's First Immigration Center (The Battery Conservancy) at http://www.castlegarden.org/ this Zink (sic) family arrived 10 December 1844 with the ship "Queen Victoria" which departed from Le Havre (France):
Joseph ZINK, farmer, 56 years old
    Theresa ANDERLIN farmer, 56 years
Celestine ZINK (mentioned as female!), farmer, 24y
Louisa ZINK, 9 years, youngster child

The family settled in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio by 1850. His mother died in 1853 probably in Dayton where they resided at the time of the 1850 Census. His father, Joseph Zinck, Sr., is known to have resided by 1855 in Montgomery County, Ohio as he remarried there to (2) Augusta Schoenberger at the Emmanuel Catholic Church in Dayton.

Celestine's brother, Joseph Zinck, Jr. (wife, Thrse Graff) and family immigrated in March 1848. Joseph Zinck, Jr. died in Montgomery County, Ohio in 1855. Another brother, Francois Antoine Zinck, was mentioned in the will of Joseph Zinck, Sr., as "Antoinio." Antoine Zinck (1810-1889). Antoine was also an immigrant to the United States and was married at the time of his immigration to Anne Marie Billand.

Celestine married 28 June 1847 at the Emmanuel Catholic Church in Dayton, Ohio to Regina Rachel Lehmann (aka Lehman), dau/o Michel/Michael Lehmann & Marie Madeleine/Magdelena Biam who immigrated from Schirrhein, Alsace, Bas-Rhin, France (Records of Schirrhein, France/Germany). At the time of the 1850 U. S. Federal Census Celestine, Regina, & their daughter, Catherine, resided with his parents.

There is no 1890 U. S. Federal Census. However, between 1880 and 1890 it is assumed that the Zinck children grew to adulthood and that the living family members continued to reside at Dayton.

Regina Rachel (Lehman[n]) Zinck died on 23 May 1891 at Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. As was the custom of the Roman Catholic Church, a Requiem Mass was probably held for her at Emmanuel Catholic Church in Dayton with her husband, family and friends present. From there her body was taken to Cavalry Cemetery, where a gravestone now marks her eternal rest.

Celestine Zinck survived his wife for about five more years. He died 24 April 1896 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. A Requiem Mass was probably held for him also, and his body was taken to Calvary Cemetery for burial. A gravestone identifies his resting place.

"Celestine and all his brood are located in the 'upscale' front part of the grounds of Calvary Cemetery, Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio."

The MYSTERY of the ALLHOFF-ZINCK FAMILY CONNECTION

This newspaper article (below) in 1902 appears to link the Joseph Zinck family to the Celestine Zinck family.
The family connection appears to be along the ZINCK family line with the ALLHOFF family.

    Placerville, California
    Mountain Democrat
    September 27, 1902
    Courtesy of: C. J. Egetter

"Mrs. Kate Saettle [sic] and Mrs. Eggetter [sic] and son, of Dayton, Ohio, arrived in Placerville last Saturday evening for a brief visit with M. J. Allhoff. The ladies are cousins of Mr. Allhoff's mother, whom they had just visited at San Jose. The party visited Coloma Sunday as the guests of Mr. Allhoff and on Tuesday left for Sacramento, en route to Ohio."

[Note: Mrs. Kate Saettle was Katherine "Kate" Theodora (Zinck) Saettle, dau/o Celestine Zinck & Regina Rachel Lehmann and wife of George Saettel.
Mrs. Egetter was Melania "Nellie"(Zinck) Egetter, dau/o Joseph Zinck & Theresa (perhaps Bechel) and wife of Marx "Martin" Egetter.
Were the two Zinck ladies cousins between themselves and then with Mrs. Allhoff? If so, what was the three way relationship?
Mrs. Egetter's son was probably s/o Martin Egetter and Melania Zinck in the person of Charles Henry Egetter, gf/o C. J. Egetter, contributor to this biography. Charles would have been 24 years of age at the time, and perhaps Charles was influenced by the visit, for a few years later, Charles moved to California.
Mrs. Allhoff was Louisa (Weaver/Wever) Allhoff-Chalmers-Hardie, and M. J. Allhoff was her son. [Mr. Allhoffs mother was a colorful character who played a major (and well recorded) role in the aftermath of the gold rush in El Dorado County, and the rise of the vineyard, wine, and hotel business in Coloma and vicinity. CJE]
However, some exact family connections are unknown.
    1. Celestine Zinck & Joseph Zinck, Jr. were brothers. Another brother has been identified as Francis Antoine Zinck.
    2. How are Allhoffs and said cousins of Mrs. Allhoff related? ASH, CJE]<
    3. Joseph Zinck, Jr. and wife, Theresa Graff, are buried at Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio, but their gravestones are not located in the same section as the Celestine Zinck family. However, "Michael Lehman" (sic) and wife, "Helena Lehman" (sic-Marie/Mary Madeleine/Magdelena (Biam) Lehmann) were reburied from the defunct Henry Cemetery. Their remains lie under Joseph Zinck, Theresa (Graff) Zinck, and their daughter, Carolina Zinck.
    4. Also, there is a huge section in the cemetery with many monuments devoted to the Allhoff family who are probably related.
