23. Scott MCNEW [Z14] was born on 6 Jan 1838 in Indiana. He was the fourth child of John Brushcreek MCNEW [Z1] and Jane Ann "Jenny" WATERS. Scott died on 28 Jul 1914 in Holton, Ripley Co, Indiana. He was buried in Old Hopewell Cem, Otter Creek Twp, Ripley Co, Indiana.

He was married to Mary Jane RAYBURN (daughter of William RAYBURN and Ann FREDENBERG) on 19 Aug 1859 in Ripley Co, Indiana.

Mary Jane RAYBURN was born c1837 in Ripley Co, Indiana.

Scott McNEW was found in the 1860 Ripley Co, Otter Creek Twp, Indiana, page 112, living at #791. He was listed as being age 23, living with wife, Mary Jane (RAYBURN) McNEW, 68, and an infant son named GEORGE W. McNEW.
(NOTE: This was the ONLY reference to a son named GEORGE W. that I have encountered. QUESTION: WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM?)

NOTE: this census shows them living next door to Mary Jane's parents William RAYBURN and Ann FREDENBERG).

Quote . . . "Mary Jane was born in 1839 in Ripley County, Indiana. She was the daughter of William RAYBURN born at Point Pleasant, Virginia in 1807 and Ann(a) FREDENBERG (VREDENBURGH), born in 1809 in Circleville, Ohio." . . . Unquote.

Found in 1860 Census, Otter Creek Township, Ripley County, Indiana, page 112, line 21: William RAYBURN, age 53, farmer, born in Virginia, living with wife, Ann, age 48, place of birth is noted as NEW YORK; a daughter whose name is hard to read but looks like: Pirnicha, age 16; son William, age 11, and daughter, Eliza, age 11. NOTE: William and Eliza were Twins.

NOTE: DL stated Mary Jane was born in Circleville, Ohio--1860 Census stated New York as the place of birth.

NOTE: William and Ann Rayburn were living next door to their daughter, Mary Jane and son-in-law, Scott McNEW.
