61. Dora Lee "DL" MCNEW
[Z141-]

SEVENTH GENERATION

61. Dora Lee "DL" MCNEW [Z141-] was born on 23 Feb 1862 in Jennings Co, Indiana (2-1/2 miles East of Lenas, just West of Ripley Co. Line).

He is listed as the first child of Scott MCNEW [Z14] and Mary Jane RAYBURN.

(However, as the 1860 Ripley Co, Otter Creek Twp, Indiana, page 112, listed Scott MCNEW living with wife, Mary Jane (RAYBURN) McNEW, and an infant son named GEORGE W. McNEW, it is questionable whether DL was the first child.)

DL died on 24 Dec 1956 in Little Rock, Arkansas and is buried in Martin Cemetery in Pulaski Co, Arkansas.

NOTE: As Scott McNEW and wife Mary Jane were found in the 1860 Ripley Co, Otter Creek Twp, Indiana, Census with an infant son named GEORGE W. McNEW--and no other reference has been discovered regarding this child--and as DL has been said to be the oldest, we will call him the first child of Scott MCNEW [Z14] and Mary Jane RAYBURN.

The McNew family group of six brothers and one sister is identified chronologically. L to R: Allen McNew of Trinidad, CO, the youngest of the seven; Walter McNew of Little Rock; W G McNew of Indianapolis, IN; Mrs. Bertha Steele of Colorado Springs, CO; Mont McNew of Indianapolis, IN; Charles Sumner McNew, host, of Pine Bluff, AR; and Dora Lee McNew, the eldest, of Little Rock.

The beautiful home of Mr and Mrs Charles S. McNew, at 1210 West Fifth Street, Pine Bluff, Arkansas was the scene of a very interesting gathering on Wednesday, January 15, 1947 when five of Mr. McNew's brothers and one sister met in a family reunion.

They are the children of the late Mr. and Mrs. Scott McNew of the Hopewell neighborhood.

At one time the six brothers were all employed by railroad companies.

The McNew house was beautifully decorated with cut flowers and potted plants, and a bounteous dinner was served at noon. The afternoon was spent reminiscing.

The ages of the McNew brothers and sister range from 63 to 85 inclusive.

The meeting was auspicious in the fact the family had not all been together at one time for 35 years.

The unforgettable day was climaxed by a birthday party at the home of Mr and Mrs Clarence Rittelmeyer of 2405 Cherry, celebrating the sixty-third birthday of the youngest brother, Allen McNew of Trindidad, Co.
