Genealogy

One thing Greg and I did in the very early days was establish that we were not related...at least, no closer than 3rd cousins or so.  He's descended from and related to most of the families who lived
in Jasper Township of Taney Co. MO and southern Christian County, MO.  I'm related to some of them, but it's very distant.
So imagine my surprise when I went to his Blansit 1999 Family Reunion, and met my own cousins!  Turned out the man I'd been emailing with about the reunion was ALSO my cousin,
not just Greg's--Greg and I are related in the same degree to Scott.  My ggg aunt, Rachel Wilson, married Jeff Nash, and a couple of their children married Blansits--and that was Scott's line!
Greg told me, only half-jokingly, during the summer of 1999 that I needed to figure out a way to make all my books and research pay for themselves.  History and genealogy being major passions, it wasn't too hard to figure out what to do.  (He also told me I had to win the lottery in order to quit working, but the lottery hasn't been cooperative, yet...as you can tell, some things I pay attention to...)
Since I "retired" from Wal*Mart in Feb 2000, I have established the White River Valley website,
become host of the Rootsweb Taney Co. MO and White River Valley email lists,
and started up Copper Turtle Genealogy.
Now, if only that lottery would co-operate...

I'm not going to post GEDCOMs on this site.  When I'm ready, I'll upload a GEDCOM to WorldConnect at Rootsweb, which seems to be the most user-friendly site for GEDCOMs I've seen.
There's 3 reasons for this:
1) I'm transferring data from my Family Tree Maker database to The Master Genealogist,
a more complex program (which is taking me time to learn!); since I have a
good-sized database (some 12K), there'll be collateral lines when I'm done.
My FTM database, while not corrupted in the viral sense, is just too unwieldy, anyway.
This site is for our direct ancestors.
2)  There's no place there for the little things you learn about people,
so that stuff's here.
3)  I seem to keep finding other things to do!
This will be set up like pedigree charts and family group sheets, without the formality.  I hope!
