What We Know: |
Diana CRAIG-BRYANT states in
her great book, Walnut Shade: Her Community, Her Settlers, and
the Cemetery that William was a justice of the peace for Jasper Township
for many years.
According to Ines BLANSIT HARRIS, William and Alcey's great-granddaughter, William fought in with Wm. Henry Harrison--she called WHH in her notes, "Tippecanoe and Tyler, Too". However, WHH died in 1841, 6 years before William Franklin was born; the battle of Tippecanoe, in which General Harrison defeated the Shawnee chiefs Tecumseh and The Prophet, was in 1811. Ines must have meant William's grandfather fought with WHH, whose name might have been William as well, for William's father wasn't born until 1817. Or maybe she meant something entirely different. The picture below, which I received courtesy of Jo Dunne, whose cousin is a Cook descendant, is the whole reason I went ahead and postponed other work and got Greg's genealogy online at this time. Isn't it awesome? <G> |
