Allen LEE's letter
Allen Lee's letter to Dr. Elisha Lightfoot Lee
dated 24 Mar 1893
Valley Head  (Ala) Mch. 24, 1893
Doctor E. Lee,
Dear Cousin,
Yours to hand.  i can't answer all your enquiry, but will try and answer some of them correctly.  I can't tell the date our people came from Va.  Grandfather William Lee was one of the 1st settlers near Pikeville.  His family was all or..[obliterated]..Virginia their names ...LEE, Joseph Lee, William Lee my father, Vardamon Lee, John your grandfather, Andrew Lee and Spencer Lee, seven sons.  My grandfather never went to Indiana all went except grandfather and Uncle John and Uncle Vard.  Grandmother went after Grandfather died.  None but my father came back.  My father went to Indiana in 1812.  I was only two weeks old.  Your father near the same.  My father married a Brock in Kentucky.
Grandfather died two miles below Pikeville.  He owned the Sam Macrunald [McReynolds] farm.  My brother William Lee died the 8th of May last - all fathers family dead except myself.
Uncle John your grandfather was marded [sic-married] about the year 1805 or 6.  My father Wm. Lee died here in this county.  Came here from Pikeville in 1834 died in 1836.  Mother died in Limestone Co. Ala.  We lived there a year.  I cant tell when Uncle Geo. Kirkland came from South Carolina - it was not long after our folks came to Bledsoe Co.  Fathers brothers all lived in Orange County, Indiana.  Some of them near White River.  It has been a long time since I've heard from any of them.  Tomorrow I will be 81 (B. Mch 25, 1812) in bad health.  Nearly blind.  You dont know how good it would be to see all our relatives.  Some few of my children in this county, some in Arkansas.  Wm is here.  John in Ark.  John Berry, grandson in Chattanooga.  Please let me know where Berry's two boys are, also Emily and kids.  Do the boys Terry and Rufus live near Pikeville yet.  Is Louisa still living?  I would love to hear from them all.  I cant see to write - have to get someone to do all my writing for over a year.

Yours respectfully,
Allen Lee
