INTRODUCTION TO

GOLDLAUTER, Germany

Several lines of my family originated in Goldlauter, Schleusingen, Thuringen, Sachsen, Prussia (Germany) beginning as early as the mid-1500s.  Many of these families intermarried, as it appears that Goldlauter was a small intimate community.  The families were large, and many times several brothers would marry several sisters from a different family.

I am not aware of the occupations of any of my Goldlauter residents, but assume they may have been somehow connected to the mining industry as Goldlauter was in the center of a rich mining district

Goldlauter is located near and has been absorbed by Heidersbach, and is located in the southwestern part of what used to be East Germany.  It is southwest of Erfurt, north of Coburg, northeast of Meiningen, and east-northeast of Fulda, in the Turinger Wald (forest) in the stadt (state) of Thuringen.

If any of your family came from this fascinating little town, I’d love to hear from you. I hope this helps you discover your GOLDLAUTER roots.

There is a great Goldlauter page (in German & English) at Goldlauter.com. Just click on the available links and then click on the “Page available in English” links.  For our purposes, the Goldlauter Emigrants is a gold mine!
