About Les Guédry et Petitpas d'Asteur

Welcome to the Guédry & Petitpas Family website.

We're Acadian - descendants of the Acadian French - deported from Nova Scotia during 1755-1760 and sent to outposts along the Eastern seaboard of North America, to England and to France.

We're a large family - the largest concentration of Guedry's is in Louisiana and southeast Texas were most of us are called Guidry or Guedry although a few of us are called Gaidry. We're also scattered throughout the United States and Canada. In Nova Scotia we are known today as Jeddry and Geddry. In Quebec and Montreal they call us Labine and LaBine. In Michigan we are the LaBean family. There are small pockets of us that go by Guildry, Gedry and Jedry. As you travel North America you'll find us in California, South Carolina, Florida, Oregon, New York, Colorado, Arizona, Iowa, Maryland, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Mexico and many other locations. Pick up any telephone book and we're likely to be just a short drive away.

We share a trait - we descend from Claude Guedry and Marguerite Petitpas of Acadia.

As we explore the richness of our family heritage, we have joined together into Les Guidry d'Asteur (The Guidry of Today) - our family association. We welcome anyone with an interest in the Guedry family to join and learn about our Guedry family history and genealogy.

The Guédry & Petitpas Family website serves as a focal point for family members to share and learn about us. It's both historical and current. Of course, we'll work together in building and documenting our Guedry genealogy. See our Genealogy and Queries pages for help in your quest.

But we're more than names, dates and places. We want to learn about what types of people our ancestors were: how did they feel, what were their occupations, when and where did they move during their lives, what did they achieve, how were they perceived by their peers. See the Family History pages for interesting stories of our ancestors. Contribute your research and information so others can learn about the Guedry's.

And we're making history today. The Family Stories pages document the lives of recent members of our family. Tell us about your parents or grandparents. In today's world our lives evolve quickly. The Family Stories pages document the lives of Guedry's during the last century. What about the old family homestead or that interesting occupation your grandparent had? Share your stories with us so we can learn more about who we are.

As we learn more about ourselves and those came before us, we yearn to meet our cousins. In August 1999 we had an exciting experience as more than 500 Guedry family members from throughout North America gathered in Houma, Louisiana for a day of getting to know each other and sharing our family heritage. In 2004 we're returning to our homeland with a Guedry-Labine Family Reunion in Clare, Nova Scotia on August 5, 2004 and in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia on August 7, 2004. Sponsored by Congres Mondial Acadien 2004, our Reunion is one of numerous Acadian family reunions and activities being planned during the first two weeks of August 2004 in Nova Scotia. Through the Guédry & Petitpas Family website we can all help plan and learn about the 2004 Guedry-Labine Family Reunion.

And there's so much more on the Guédry & Petitpas Family website. Explore, find and enjoy our Guedry family. It's both fun and educational. So relax and spend a few moments with us as you enjoy this unique website. You'll find that you'll want to visit it often.
