Guédry-Labine Family Quilt / Courtepointe Familiale

For the 2004 Guedry-Labine Family Reunion Cindy Guidry Herdt, one of our members who enjoys quilting almost as much as she enjoys genealogy, made a Guedry-Labine Family Quilt.  During the 2004 Reunion in Nova Scotia we displayed the Quilt for all to enjoy.  It was a highlight of the Reunion as families located their 'family square' and explained its significance to others attending the Reunion.

Preparing the Guedry-Labine Family Quilt was a very time-consuming task and required almost a year to complete.  Each participating family created a "family square" for their immediate family using any method that they wished (e.g., applique, needlework, permanent ink, pieced fabric, etc.).  The "family squares" were 10 inches on each side with an 8-inch square at the center containing the family design.  Families were quite creative in designing their "family square".  Some included the names of the family members, others noted their home state or other interesting facts about their family.  All were distinctive and unique to the family creating their "family square".

Each family then sent their finished "family square" to Cindy in Entiat, Washington and Cindy designed and quilted the Guedry-Labine Family Quilt using the "family squares" as the focal point of the quilt.

The Guedry-Labine Family Quilt has become an heirloom of the Guedry-Labine Family and will be displayed at future Guedry-Labine Family Reunions.  Certainly it'll be a conversational piece at the Reunions and families will take pride as they 'show off'  their "family square".
