Coats

The Coats Family of Barren and Edmonson County Kenucky

The Coats family of Edmonson County, Kentucky lived near Mammoth Cave. In fact, Samuel Barry Coats' children used it as their own personal playground. Most of the Coats family moved in Illinois around Warren County between the turn of the century and 1930 because of the Mammoth Cave area being made into a National Park and they were outgrowing the available land that was there to farm.
From family history that has been handed down, the Coats men fought for the Union. Some even marched with Sherman. I am still trying to find the records to corroborate these accounts.
The Holtons and Doyels of Edmonson County have long intermarried with the Coats family. I am still trying to unravel who belongs to whom. I welcome any new information on these families.
