Descendants of Nathaniel Hobbs

Descendants of Nathaniel HOBBS

Although several lines of Vincent Hobbs, Revolutionary War Soldier and Indian fighter, have been researched thoroughly, our particular branch of the Hobbs family has been handed down through family lore until recently. Now, several Hobbs family reseachers are trying to piece together our branch of the family as best we can. while I have strived to document this family's history, I am still having to rely on oral recollections and similarities in family names and Hobbs in the same proximity to piece together its lineage. Maurita Lutton, Michael Hobbs, Beatrice Hobbs Martin's family sketches and my mother-in-law, Mina Coats Hobbs's stories and recollections of Hobbs family stories have been invaluable in this endeavor. However, any new information would be greatly appreciated.

Our Hobbs line settled on the edge of the Little Egypt area of Illinois. They lived in the rocky hills above the majestic Mississippi River and were farmers and sawyers among other things. The lineage has been passed down orally through the years. They fought for the Union during the Civil War. In fact, the small town where the majority of my husband's family settled was called Liberty for years because it was a major stop on the Underground Railroad. My husband's great-grandfather, Thomas Vincent Hobbs, died of wounds received in Chattanooga, TN where he is buried in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
