Finding and researching the Moore family has been a blast. My mother and I started trying to find her great grandmother, Margrett Tryphena Moore in Freestone or Leon County, Texas. Due to the fact that Margrett's son, Harmon Allen Wade Sr. and his wife, Mattie Dean Holland, obviously named some of their children after her siblings, we thought that it was possible that some of the other names came from his side of the family. We knew that Margrett was born in Arkansas but I had been unable to find her in the Arkansas 1860 census when she would have been 4 years old. I had also looked in the 1860 Texas census with no luck. Then we went to the Leon County Genealogy Library in Centerville, Texas, we found an A M Moore with children Harmon, Columbus, Margaret, and Monroe in the 1870 Leon County, Texas census - all names of Margrett's grandchildren! And...they were born in Arkansas! Eureka!

My mom and I were able to find Allen Moore in 1850 Jefferson County, Arkansas and, in doing so, found his parents and his siblings. Since my mother lives in Anderson County, Texas, she had access to a lot of resources for Leon County records and, we later found, Rutherford County, North Carolina records. Just what we needed. So, I handed the research over to her and she ran with it and has done the bulk of the subsequent research on the Moore Family.

In uploading what preliminary information I had in early August, we were contacted by a Moore cousin who has turned into a good friend, Mickey Griffith and another Wade cousin contacted us and she feels like a good friend as well, Jeanne Knapp. We have also received a lot of help from Larry Moore, David Martin, David Moore and Vernal Glen "Red" Moore who was kind enough to share his compiled research (using sources such as himself, Carrie Moore, his Aunt Vera Moore, and Kendall Grigg among others) as well as numerous other cousins who have contacted us about their Moore lines. With the help of these great ladies and men, our family tree would be skimpy indeed and so Mom and I want to thank them very much for all their help. I also want to thank Mom for all her great work. I hope she's proud of these pages when she sees them.

As this is a work in progress, any new information about the John Jackson Moore, Senior family would be greatly appreciated. Only polite queries will be answered. We do try to cite our sources whenever possible but, as some source records are apparently no longer in existence, we have made educated guesses based on what records we could find, location of those records and other circumstantial evidence. We try not to make hasty assumptions but we do make mistakes. If you have someone in your family that's deceased and I have that them listed as LIVING, that's because I haven't found a death date for them. Send it on and I will be glad to change their status. I will also be glad to send edited gedcoms upon request.
