Descendants of Isaac Sibley

Descendants of
Isaac SIBLEY

There are two different theories as to who the father of Isaac Sibley is. One theory supposes that since he married a woman from Martha's Vineyard, Massachussetts, that his father is probably John Sibley of Salem, Massachussetts. The other theory points to an Isaac Sibley, minor, who was mentioned in the will of John Sibley who died in Fairfax County, Virginia in 1750. There were further papers filed in court where Isaac's guardian was named as John Sibley, probably Isaac's older brother who was also named in the late John Sibley's will. At this juncture, there is probably no way of proving his parentage one way or the other.

A funny thing happened in the course of trying to find a Fisher family connection between the Fisher family that married my grandmother Bonnie Moore Wade and the Fisher family that married her sister, Callie Alberta Wade. We had heard vague rumors that the two Fisher families were connected and this seemed to be logical since both Fisher families were in Washington Parish, Louisiana at the same time. Recently, I have found the connection and it was so simple that I can't believe that it took me so long to figure it out. Before that, however, I found that John Miller Fisher's mother-in-law was Martha Ann Sibley, a first cousin of my great-great-great grandmother, Penelope Sibley! So it ended up that there was another connection.

Another side note, when you get to Penelope Sibley and her marriages, you will see that her last marriage is to John A Fisher. This is my great-great-great-great grandfather and the grandfather of her son-in-law, Benjamin Toney "Bennie" Fisher, Jr. I wish I knew the story about how that came about and what the family reaction was but I don't. Some things are just better left to the imagination, I guess.

As this is a work in progress, any new information is always appreciated.
