Moved to Oregon in 1846. Some of the Goff cousins are said to have followed him to Oregon. This is what Oregon researcher Stephanie Flora said about them:
"Most of the Goffs went the Southern Route and settled in Polk County. It is rather unusual to find an emigrant on the Southern Route settled in Washington County unless he chose not to attempt the Southern Route (good choice)."
She also sent this information:
"In the Oregon Donation Land Claims it shows the following:
Benjamin Stewart, settled Washington Co; b. 1795 Jessamine Co, KY; settled claim 01 Feb 1849; m'd Elizabeth 25 Jul 1816 Jessamine Co, KY; Charles Stewart gave affidavit that Benj. Stewart d. about 1856. "

This is an excerpt from LIFE SKETCHES, by John Q. A. YOUNG - 1889
"My brother and I secured a contract cutting wood for one dollar a cord, for a man named Benjamin Stewart, who had arrived in Oregon City by emigrant train in 1846. He now has four children in Washington County.... "

Jim Dewelt in Atascadero, CA is doing research on this line.

James married Nancy MELTON. Nancy was born in 1808 in VA. She died 1 after 18 Nov 1863 in Callaway Co, MO.

Her surname could be Milton or Minton. There's a Daniel Melton in the Jessamne Co, KY census in 1810 with one daughter under the age of 10. It's possible that Daniel is Nancy's father.

They had the following children:

  50 M i Reuben Y GOFF was born 1, 2, 3 about 1827/1828 in MO. He died 4 on 12 Jun 1864 in Little Rock, Pulaski, AR.

MILITARY: GOFF, Reuben. Pvt. (Confederate) -- Co. H, Col. John B. Clarks Regt, 9th MO Infantry. Enlisted 1 Jul 1862 (Also listed as Gough). Captured 2 Mar 1864 in Searcy County, Arkansas. Sent on 8 Apr 1864 to Military Prison at Little Rock. Died in prison 12 Jun 1864. Buried on land with others who died at prison.

He was listed in the Callaway Co MO 1860 Census with his father and mother. He stated his age was 32.
+ 51 M ii James William GOFF
+ 52 M iii Stephen J GOFF
+ 53 F iv Elizabeth J GOFF
54 F v Mary F GOFF was born 1, 2, 3 about 1841 in Callaway Co, MO. She died 4 in Mar 1860 in Callaway Co, MO.

I found a record in the LDS IGI files that has a Mary Goff marrying Charles Christian 30 Jul 1860 in Cedar, Callaway, MO. Even though she died in 1860, I wonder if this is the correct marriage for this woman.
+ 55 M vi John T GOFF
56 F vii Mariah GOFF was born 1 about 1853 in Callaway Co, MO.
  57 M viii George F GOFF was born 1, 2, 3 in 1855 in Callaway Co, MO.

In the LDS IGI records, I found a George F Goff who married a Mary F NOLE on 18 Oct 1877 in Cedar, Callaway Co, MO. This is in batch M515231, source call 0932390 V.AC. I am wondering if this record is for this George Goff.

George F. Goff has become a mystery to our Goff researchers. We cannot find him in the 1876 MO State census or in the 1880 MO Federal Census. At least one researcher believes it's unlikely that he, his father and mother died in a six year period. No grave has been found for any of the three so we really don't know where they were in 1876, 1880 and onward.

15. Reuben STUART (Thomas , Benjamin , Charles ) was born 1, 2, 3, 4 in 1811 in Jessamine Co, KY. He died in 1885 in Howard Co, MO.

Reuben married 1, 2 Nancy R WARD on 29 May 1831 in Callaway Co, MO. Nancy was born 3, 4, 5 on 1 Jun 1804 in KY. She died 6, 7, 8 on 5 Aug 1885 in Readsville, Callaway, MO and was buried 9 on 6 Aug 1885 in Readsville, Callaway, MO.

They had the following children:

+ 58 M i Rice Ferdinand STUART
+ 59 M ii James Thomas STUART
+ 60 M iii Robert Henry STUART
+ 61 F iv Emily A STUART
+ 62 F v Amanda Catherine STUART
63 F vi Etna M STUART was born 1, 2 in 1842 in Readsville, Callaway, MO. She died before 1885 in Callaway Co, MO.

Etna M Stuart Oliver does not appear as an heir on her father, Rueben Stuart's will recorded Sept 1, 1885. It is therefore assumed that she died prior to Sept 1, 1885 and did not leave any children.
Etna married 1 George W OLIVER on 9 Feb 1860 in Callaway Co, MO. George was born 2 about 1839 in MO.
