Genealogy is a fascinating hobby!  I started trying to trace my “roots” about four years ago with a letter I found in a closet that was written in 1949 to my grandfather, William Harrison Gunnoe, by his cousin, Berta Bernard Gunnoe, and memories of stories that had been passed down through my family.  Since then I have “met” many others researching the same families and have gained much information from them, other research, and spending hours in the “Heritage Room” of the Raleigh County Library.  Two years ago…I was able to get into an old family trunk that turned out to be a genealogist’s “gold mine”.  The trunk contained over 600 pictures that had belonged to my grandmother, Mary Jane Clay, and my aunt who had raised me, Esta Gunnoe Blevins.  It also contained newspaper clippings and obituaries, family memorabilia, and both my grandmother’s and my aunt’s Bibles.  I have taken all the information that I have gathered and compiled/written a booklet on my grandparents and their ancestors.

 

Genealogy is also about sharing…in fact sharing with other researchers is essential to genealogy research.  I would not have gotten a lot of the information that I have had it not been for other researchers posting their research on the internet.  So this site is to share what I have learned.  As time permits…I will be publishing the book I have written/compiled on this site.  As each chapter is published there will be a link for it at the bottom of this page.  Hard copies of the book are available.
