Jan. 13.--Sorry to report Mr. John Bezanger laid up with a very bad cut in his foot. Hope to see him able to be about again soon.
Mr. Fred Kennedy of Lakedale, has been calling on friends here recently.
Mr. John J. McIntosh is still able to make his daily trips to O'Brien's camp at Porcupine road although the snow is very heavy in some places.
Mr. Ivan Cummings has gone to work in the lumber woods with Mr. Norman Hudson.
Mr. John McPherson, of Sheet Harbour, is engaged as scaler for Mr. Walter McNeil.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sinclair have gone to New Glasgow to spend the winter months.
Sorry to report Mr. Lige Feltmate on the sick list.
Mr. Caleb Mason, of Country Harbour, is engaged Lumbering for Mr. Andy Rhyno.
Mrs. John J. McIntosh of Goshen, has returned home after cooking in O'Brien's Lumber Camp for some months.
Miss Gertrude Jordan was visiting friends on Saturday evening last.
Mr. Robert Groves, of White Head, is engaged as cookee in Mr. Rhyno's camp.
Mr. Willie Hattie, of Argyle, was calling on friends here on Sunday, Jan. 7th.

Jan. 10.--S.R. Giffin's and sons schooner, "Hockomock", Capt. Giffin arrived home from Halifax on Jan. 5.
Mr. Perry Silver arrived home on Jan. 5th, after a visit to Lochaber, after two weeks stay.
Mr. J. W. MacDonald spent the afternoon, of Jan. 8th, at the home, of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sponagle.
The C.G.I.T. girls had a social evening Friday Jan. 5th. There were thirty six present. They all enjoyed a good time.
Capt. Z.H. Giffin is busily engaged cutting in the woods.
The Trail Rangers installed new officers on Wednesday evening Jan. 3rd, the old officers were as follows:
Karl Giffin--President.
Borden Silver--Vice President.
Neil Silver--Secretary.
Robert Johnson--Treasurer.

The schooner "Marian Phillos" arrived home this morning coal loaded from Sydney.
Mr. Sandy Clarke arrived home Friday, Jan. 5th on the schooner "Hockomock". We all welcome him back.
Miss Reeves arrived home on the "Chedabucto" from her home, where she spent the Christmas holidays.
Mr. Simon Fraser left us on Saturday night for home we will all miss him.
Miss Erma Worth paid a flying visit to Drum Head Jan. 7th.
Dr. and Mrs. J.J. MacRitchie spent the evening at the home of Capt. Z.H. Giffin on Monday evening Jan. 8th.
Mrs. J.D. Cummings is on the sick list. We all wish her a speedy recovery.
Mrs. Edgar Silver had a fall on Saturday evening Jan. 6th. and gave herself a bad shaken up.

Jan. 15th.--The weather is very changeable. Sometimes very mild, then turning cold and frosty.
Quite a few of our neighbors are on the sick list, or just recovering from an attack of la grippe.
Dr. R. C. McCullough has made a few trips to this place on that disease. The Drs. are all kept busy for it seem to be everywhere.
Mr. Frank Connolly's whole family were all stricken with this grippe at the same time. His son, Patrick, was very sick for a long time. We are pleased to report he is much improved.
Mr. John Shea was very sick and his little daughter wasn't expected to live. We are pleased to report Mr. Shea is able to be around again and his daughter is out of danger.
Miss Helen M. Tory, of Wainright arrived at the home of her brother, Guy, before Xmas. She is visiting friends in Guysboro, her former home. All are pleased to see Helen looking so well and wish her a grand time while here.








A few of our men are doing quite lot of wood work. They are engaged in getting out cord wood and also pulp wood, as well as fire wood.
Mr. George McPherson, of North Riverside, has been visiting this place quite frequently since his arrival from Boston.
Miss Martha Phelan, of this place, was visiting Mrs. Johanna McDonald, North Riverside recently.
It is reported that Mrs. John Dillon, of this place, fell down cellar, breaking her leg. She has been in failing health for some time and the community feels very sorry for her misfortune.
The death occurred at North Riverside on Monday morning at five o'clock of Mrs. James Cleary. The community was shocked as she was so smart and active until a week before her death. She leaves to mourn the _______ devoted mother Thomas, _________ and ________ she was living. Her husband predeceased her some years ago, also her son, Gregory. The two surviving sons have the sympathy of the whole neighborhood.

Jan. 15th--We are having very cold weather with quite a lot of snow. Hope it will not come to much snow as it makes it very disagreeable for our mail driver, Mr. John McDougall, as well as the people to get around.
Our school has started again after the Xmas holidays. Hope our teacher, Miss Florence Dort, also the children...

Much sympathy is felt for Mrs. Valentine Williams and family on the sad death of her husband at his home at Lambs Point. Also for Mrs. David Reynold and family on the sad death of her husband which came so very sudden.
Mr. Matthew George also Mr. Joseph George, of Lambs Point, paid a short visit here recently.

Jan. 13--We have had lots of fierce snow storms lately, and the roads are in very bad condition; but as the old Proverb states the harder the blast the sooner 'tis past'. We are all looking forward to an early spring.
School has opened under the manage of Miss Maud Barss, daughter of D.A. Barss, Lower New Harbor.
Mrs. James O'Hara, of Upper New Harbor, is spending a few days with her mother, who is very ill, at Coddles.
Mr. Emery Strople, of Drum Head, was a visitor to Coddles Jan. 7th.
We are glad to have the smiling face of Mr. Ross Child's with us again after an absence of several months.
The young men of this vicinity are very scarce.
Mr. Harry Henderson, of New Harbor, is at present hauling wood for Mr. Stephen Crook's.
Mr. and Mrs. Sandy Crooks and son Wilson, are spending a week with friends and relatives at New Harbor.

Jan. 15th--We are all glad to learn that two evangelists are to be with us and hold services for two weeks beginning Jan. 16th.
Rev. H.A. Frenzen was with us on January 7th and preached two interesting and goodly sermons.
Mrs. Howard Sangster of this place who is teaching in Halfway Cove, spent her Xmas vacation at her home here.
Miss Alice M. Barss, has gone to teach school at Coddles Harbor, she will be greatly missed by all.
Mr. E. MacIntosh, of Port Shoreham, was in New Hbr., last week.
Mrs. James O'Hara, spent a few days in Coddles Harbor with her mother Mrs. Levi Sponagle, who is very ill.
Miss Dessie Sangster spent a week at Up. New Harbour recently.
Miss Annie C. Sangster is visiting in Cooks Cove.
The young people are certainly enjoying good skating now.
Mr. William Cunningham, of Boylston was in New Harbor recently.

Jan. 15th--The concert held in Charlo's Cove School on Wednesday, December 27th proved a grand success.
Everything was carried out splendidly.
Much praise is due our popular teacher, Miss Genesta M. Richard for having trained the pupils of both the Higher department and the primary Department so well.

This little concert was to help build our New school house, which is intended to be completed during the summer vacation.
The concert and auction sale brought us the sum of $82.00, thanks to the people of Cole Harbour, and Larry's River, who so generously helped by attending. The school house was packed to the door.
Mr. Jeffree Pitts and Mr. Timothy J. Richard, who were to Guysboro, Dec. 27th on business returned home the 28th.
Mrs. Mable Richard has arrived home from Cambridge, where she has been for some time.
Miss Roddie Graner, who has been employed in St. John, N.B., is spending the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. Graves.
Miss Hattie Burke (Senior teacher), who has been spending her vacation with her parents in River Bourgois is expected here soon.

Jan 15th--The weather has been very cold and stormy lately, but we are hoping for a change soon. The woodsmen are very busy getting wood cut and hauled while the hauling lasts.
We are sorry to report, Mrs. Ira Fenton met with a slight accident last week, when she fell on the ice and sprained her wrist. We hope it will soon be well again.
The S.S. "Chedabucto" arrived here Sunday. She was delayed by stormy weather and is off her usual trips.
Mr. Garfield Peitysche left here Friday for New Glasgow, where he will be employed for several months, returning when the fishing season opens.
The sch "Marion Phyllis", Capt. J.O'Hara, arrived last night with a cargo of coal, part of which is for Freeman and Giffin.
We regret to report the death of one of the oldest and most respected gentlemen of Isaac's Harbor; Mr. Charles Cooke, who died Jan. 8th. He was in failing health all winter, but suddenly, on Sunday night, took a bad turn and died Monday. He leaves to mourn his loss three sons, Capt. W.M. Cooke, L.J. Cooke and Tremaine who is at present in Timmins, Ont., also one daughter, Winifred, in Halifax. Mr. Cooke was about 73 years old. Funeral took place from his residence Isaac's Harbor. School has started again. We are glad to see the teachers back, also glad to see the children so anxious to get to school; It shows they like their teachers.
We are sorry to report Mrs. James Giffin of Isaac's Harbor on the sick list. Hope for a quick recovery.
