May 19, 1910, Thursday, Cassville Republican, Barry Co., MO - New Site News: Miss Mary Lanning was born in N. Carolina, Oct 20, 1840, moved to Arkansas in 1862 from there to Booneville, MO, in 1864. In 1867 she was married to William Browning and moved to Barry County in 1869 where she lived for thirty-two years going then to Oklahoma where at Wellstone she died May 9, 1910. The remains were brought to the home of her niece, Mrs. R. J. Holmes, May 11 and Thursday, May 12 at 10 a.m. were interred in the New Site Cemetery by the side of her husband who was buried just thirty-seven years ago on the same day. The services were conducted by Eld. Luther Carlin. The deceased was converted to faith in Christ at the age of 25 years and united with the Methodist church of which she was a faithful member at the time of her death. She was the mother of four children, there sons and one daughter, all of whom survive except the daughter who died in early childhood. The bereaved have the sympathy of all.

From the newspapers this was located: Mrs. Bryant, mother-in-law of James Browning of near Exeter, died Tuesday night. She was nearly 85 years old. The remains were laid to rest in the New Site Cemetery, Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Bryant was an old and highly respected citizen of the county. Smith of Exeter was called to New Site Sunday to conduct the funeral services of Mrs. Ella Carlin who died at her home near Webb City, May 15, 1914. Ella J. Kirk was born in 1855. In 1881 she was married to Lafayette Carlin. To this union were born five children, two sons and three daughters, the oldest son died in infancy. The other children are living and were with their mother at the time of her death. The body was shipped to Monett where it was taken in charge by undertaker Calloway and after the services which was held at New Site the remains were laid to rest in the New Site Cemetery. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of all in this dark hour of Sorrow.

Carlin's funeral was 6 April 1916, and the services were at New Site at 2:30 PM. The cause of death was cancer of the stomach. His age was 76 years, 3 mos., 17 days old. The following information is an abstract is from Barry Co., MO, Goodspeed's History of MO, page 1081. [Original copy of book in ownership] William Marshall Carlin, son of Asa and Maria Carlin, and one of the most prominent farmers of Barry Co., MO, was born in Harrison Co., VA, on December 19, 1839. In 1856 he came with his parents to Barry Co., MO, and remained with them until he was twenty years of age. Then when he married, he settled where he was living in 1888. (Goodspeed's account) William Carlin built the mill at Purdy, MO in 1885. On July 28, 1859, he was united in marriage with Nancy Haddock, who was born on February 25, 1859. Her father was Charles Haddock, one of the first settlers of the county. He was a farmer and stock raiser, and a very prominent citizen. To Wm Marshall Carlin and wife Nancy Haddock Carlin were born nine children (account from 1888 Goodspeed). They were Harrison L., Charles A., William S., Samantha, Thomas S., John F., Bitty, Pleasant and Luther. Wm Marshall Carlin served as a Union solider in the Federal Army, Civil War, and was a Baptist by faith. Cassville Republican Newspaper, Barry Co., MO, William Marshall Carlin, a great-grandson of John Champ Carlin, served in Missouri's Stone Prairie Home Guard and in Companies I and L, First Regiment, Arkansas Calvary of the Union Army.

Barry Co., MO, listed in the county paper, the Cassville Republican on May 19th of 1896 was Solomon Rombaugh, age 46 and Etta Belle Haddock age 21, Pierce City, MO, who had applied for a marriage license. Etta Belle Rumbaugh divorce from Solon Rumbaugh Circuit Court Divorce decrees, Cassville Republican, in the Oct 28, 1897 weekly paper. Etta married Mike Linehart sometime before the census was taken in 1920 and then married Grover Greenway sometime after or around 1922. Etta's daughter Eula L. Rumbaugh died in 1912 and is buried at New Site.
