Sept 15, 1898, Cassville Republican, Weekly Paper, Cassville, Barry Co., MO

Republican Nominees:

William A. Hubbard of Madry. He was born Sept 15, 1855 in Arkansas.

Joe L. Downing, born in the Shenandoah Valley, June 12, 1848. Ten years later he came to Lawrence County. He served in the 15th MO Calvary. In 1887 he moved to Monett.  

M. C. Messer, was born near Chillicothe, MO, on Sept 16, 1850.

Josiah H. Johnson, born in Capps Creek Township, March 14, 1859.

Horatio O. Cornman of Jenkins, born Madison Co., IL, Oct 23, 1843. He served in the 9th IL Mt'd. Inf. IN1873 he came to Jenkins.

Charles W. Williams, was born in Crane Creek Township, Mar 9, 1868.

Lafayette Beasley was born in Newton Co., MO, May 30, 1855.

William R. Browning born in Barry County, MO, 1847. He served in the 15th MO Cavalry.

A. F. Hilker of Corsicana, was born April 15, 1862 in Covington, KY. He came to southwest Missouri in 1887.

Silas R. Reynolds "Bud", born Mar 4, 1850 in Fayette Co., VA [Now in West VA]. At the age of 4 he came to Independence Co., AR, where his parents died. He lived with a sister in Illinois and then came to Lawrence Co., in 1868.

Richard Tucker of Golden, son of James Tucker of Eagle Rock, was born Jan 18, 1842 in Bond Co., IL. In 1851 he came to Madison Co., AR, and then to Barry County in 1855. He served in the 24th MO Infantry.

George Bennett died in jail, from wounds he received while resisting arrest. He was a brother of Siegel Bennett.

On Sept 7th, Mrs. Marion Thomas of Pleasant Ridge daughter of John  Black died of typhoid. She was a sister to Nellie Black who died of the same disease and also she was had a brother Calvin who died 2 weeks ago. Another sister Mrs. Samantha Calton is also ill.

Sept 22,1898, Cassville Republican, Weekly Paper, Cassville, Barry Co., MO

Minnie, the little daughter of David Huffman died. They buried her at Painter Cemetery.

Mrs. Samantha Calton, wife of John Calton of Pleasant Ridge died. Burial was in Calton Cemetery. The fourth child of John Black to die inside two months. Died of Malarial fever.

Pension Board:

 

Jesse T. Holder of Monett, 12 West VA. Inf.

Ebenzer C. Stiles of Golden, 39 IA Inf.

Mabel, a young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Johnson of Aurora fell in a cistern and drowned.

John Bearden is who was wanted for stealing Harry Johnson's horse, was captured. He was earlier acquitted of murder of Ike Lewis of Taney County in 1896. He was born in Chariton Co., MO, May 21, 1874 and is the son of Francis M. Bearden. He has a brother Lewis Bearden. In 1880 his parents moved to Taney County, MO.

Dr. Solomon Petty died at his home on Gaddis, age 79 years, 8 months, 16 days. He leaves wife and 1 son. Burial was in Hailey Cemetery.

Aix News: An infant of I. R. Gabhart died.

Washburn News: John West and his mother moved to the nation during the cold spell.

Accident News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Henbest, a fine girl, Tuesday.

Accident News: James Lawhorn and Miss Emma Timmons were united in the bonds of matrimony, Dec 16, at Granby, MO, and returned home Friday night. We wish them much joy through life.

Seligman News: Wm. Apples moved to Jas. Reagle's place south of town, Monday.

Seligman News: Jack Foster of Gravett, Ark., has been visiting his father-in-law, N. B. Roller.

Forest Grove News: Grandma Thornhill, of Mineral Springs, spent Christmas with her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Ennes.

Shell Knob School: In the monthly examination, for the month closing Dec 23, the following persons made an average above 90 percent. Myrtle Dabney, 98; Iva Dabney, 95 1/2; Alta Kimball, 95; Willie Epperley, 96; Susan Epperley, 91; Isaac Epperley, 90 1/2; Paul Bartley, 96; Chas. Venable, 95; Willie Blythe, 95; Elmer Blythe, 95; Nellie Blythe, 90 1/2; Grover Ledgerwood, 94; Maggie Brock, 90; Addie Brock, 90; Edward Brantly 98; Minty Barnes, 92.
