Miss Laura Gertrude George died Friday, July 30, at the old George Homestead on the Washburn road, age 44 years. The remains were interred in the Washburn Prairie Cemetery, Saturday after services by Eld. J. C. Sellers.

Frank Morris of Gwynneville, Ind., while attempting to board a passing train, was thrown under the car, which ran over his left arm and foot, from the effects of which he died a few hours later. Mr. Morris was a cousin of David and Jesse Talbert of Exeter and grandson of Presley Morris of Exeter.

John Talbert; living about six miles southeast of here, died last Sunday evening of partial paralysis, age 50 years. Funeral under auspices of the Masonic Lodge of this place. Christian services by Rev. Mrs. Moore at Blue River Baptist Church, Tuesday at 12:30. Interment at Bennett's Cemetery. Morristown [Ind.] Sun

Jack Anderson's family was startled Thursday by the discharge of a shot gun that one of the children fired while under a bed. The lead went close by a younger child who was in the same room.

Eagle Rock News: Friday morning, Boon Haddock, Dick Elam, W. T. Ayres and Wilder Farwell left Eagle Rock with about 85 fat hogs, headed toward Cassville. [Research Note: Boon was the father-in-law of Richard Elam. He was married to Boon's daughter Alice. Alice was a descendant of both Charles Haddock, Sr. and Zachariah Haddock.] 

Eagle Rock News: Mr. and Mrs. M. Farwell and children, Lula and Zealous, left Monday on a week's visit with relatives near Monett.

Eagle Rock News: Burt Parish passed through Eagle Rock Thursday night on his way from Eureka Springs to Cassville to see his brother, who was reported sick.

Hon. W. J. Brock of shell Knob was the guest of Prof. J. T. Brooks, Monday night.

His 76th Birthday: W. W. Lee Celebrates Amongst a Throng of Friends.  One of those occurrence which tends to cheer the traveler through life and smooth the wrinkle from the aged brow, happened the 1st inst. at the home of Squire Wm. W. Lee of near Purdy, in memory of the 76th anniversary of his birth, when over seventy person partook of the sumptuous dinner prepared, amongst who were vive children, twenty eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. W. W. Lee, who claims to be the oldest settler in Barry County, was born in Washington Co., VA, December 1, 1820. At the age of 7, with his parents Miller and Nancy Lee, he moved to Rhea Co., Tenn., where he grew to manhood and was married February 27, 1840 to Caroline C. Smith. Of this union was born thirteen children; nine of them are still living. In the spring of 1840, he moved to Barry County. He served the county officially one term as coroner, one term as probate judge, registering officer and assessor, four year as deputy sheriff and 12 years as J. P. August 17, 1888, his wife Caroline C. departed this life and November 21, 1889, he was again married to Mrs. Marinda Vermillion. When the war of '61 broke out he espoused the union cause, served as 1st Sergt. in Co. H, 14 Reg. M.S. M. Vol. Cav., also as 1st Sergt, in Co. H 14  Reg., M.S. M. Cav., and boast that he still votes as he shot. November 27, 1889 he embraced the religion of Jesus Christ and united with the M. E. Church. In 1817 he was licensed to exhort by the M. E. Church. Jun 1, 1856, united with the Baptist, Sept 3rd licensed to preach the gospel and Aug 6, 1887 was ordained to the full work of the ministry. Many incidents he can relate of the early settlement of Barry County, such as seeing from one to fifty deer at one sight; also some elk in the county where he came here. Bear and panther were plenty in the hill country of White River. Coon skins and deer pelts were almost lawful tender. The nearest store was at Springfield which was the nearest point to find a doctor. The settlers were all botanic doctors and used the herbs. Shortly after he arrived, Lewis Henderson put up a small supply of goods at Washburn. Then John Cureton put up a better stock of goods with Z. J. Keet as clerk. Keet bought out Cureton thus the place was called Keetsville. It was once a hard place. The country seat being one mile below where Pierce City is. The who southwest belonged to Barry County, the counties of Newton, Lawrence, McDonald and Stone, being taken off since. There was one preacher in what is Barry County and two small class meetings all held in dwelling houses. No schools. [Research Note: Caroline Coleman Smith married William Wheeler Lee Feb 27, 1840 in Rhea Co., TN, she was the daughter of Charles and Nancy (Jacobs) Lee and a sister to my 3rd great grandfather, Giles Ira Smith. Wheeler and Caroline are both  buried at Bethel Cemetery.]

Died, Dec 11, Susan Duckworth, age 78. She was born in McMinn Co., TN, and she married Peter Neil in 1835. They moved to Crane Creek Twp., in Barry Co., in 1850. He died Oct 15, 1851. They had 8 children. In 1855 she married Dr. Lemaster and had 2 sons Allen and Abraham. He died in 1859. In 1863 she married Thomas Duckworth who died in 1885. She then lived with her youngest daughter who is Mrs. A. M. Willey. Grandma Duckworth has a daughter Mrs. Enoch Williams who is 58. Mrs. Williams has a daughter who is Mrs. Tom Bassett who is 40. She has a daughter who is Mrs. Frank Wise who is 18. She has a daughter who is 1 year old.

Washburn: Mr. Neff has lost a filly.

Died - Dec 13th, Isaac M. Jackson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jackson, born June 14, 1873. Burial was in New Liberty Church Cemetery.

Died - Dec 17th, Mrs. Jesse Thomas at Carterville. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery.

Died, Rev. Doran, in Eureka. He died of heart trouble.
