September 6, 1894, Thursday, Weekly Paper, Cassville Republican 

The mystery of the burglary of A. J. Henderson's store at Panacea, some months ago, is supposed to have been solved by the arrest of Oscar Williams, who formerly lived at that place but moved recently on Trent's Creek, west of Washburn. Williams was seen wearing clothes and had traded others stuff that answered the description of the goods lost, and which were identified by Mr. Henderson. 

Tom King and wife of Panacea are the happy parents of a ten pound Republican boy. The county will surely go Republican this fall.

Married, Wednesday, September 5th, at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Purdy, MO, Mr. Amos M. Gurley and Miss Nannie K. Fry. Rev. R. W. Reynolds of Sarcoxie officiating. After the ceremony an elegant reception was tendered the happy couple and friends at the residence of the bride's parents, Judge and Mrs. W. A. Fly.

Flat Creek News: Ed Smith has sold his farm in this vicinity and will soon move to Stone County.

Madry News: Uncle Ben Ellis has reported to have dropped dead, Thursday but it is a mistake. He is still living and able to get over his farm.

Oliver's Prairie: Died, Wednesday, Aug 29th, at the home of her father, Roan Nelley, Mrs. Mollie Autry, aged about 24 years. The remains were interred in the Rocky Comfort Cemetery, funeral serviced conducted by Rev. Jas. T. Brattin. She leaves a husband, two children and many other relatives to mourn her departure.

Roaring River News: Mr. and Mrs. John Hoyt lost their infant son, Fred the 6th inst.

 

Roaring River News: Several days ago, Mrs. Emily Bryan was bitten on the finger by a copperhead snake. Her finger was swollen considerable, but the swelling has subsided and she is slowly recovering.

Capps Creek News: Washington Montgomery attended protracted meeting at Rocky Comfort last week.

 

Capps Creek News: Mrs. Calvin Smith has so far recovered as to be able to ride home form her father-in-law's at Purdy where she was visiting when taken ill.

 

Capps Creek News: Mr. and Mrs. Brown Teel have returned from Douglas County, where they were called to see Mrs. Teel's brother, who died of typhoid fever.

 

Eagle Rock News: Bill Lewis is making sorghum - that is, his boys, do the grinding, Joe Pruett the boiling, and Bill licks the pan.

Washburn News: Mr. and Mrs. Close of Ft. Smith, Ark., attended the Russell - Johnson wedding here Sunday.

 

Washburn News: Sunday, Oct 21, at the residence of J. M. Johnson, Rev. McCracken performed the ceremony which made Mr. Jas. Russell and Miss Laura Johnson man and wife. Mr. Russell is a resident of Stone County and Miss Laura one of Washburn's most popular young ladies. We extend our best wishes.

Obituary: Setzer: Died, Oct 20, at 9 o'clock a. m. Mary Malita, daughter of  M. Y. and C. E. Setzer, after suffering more than a year, at her father's home near Cassville. Malita was born in 1866 in Mockesville, NC, and professed  religion in 1880 in united with the M. E. Church (South) in August, 1888, in which she lived until God took her to the church triumphant. "I am ready to die, my way is clear," and the evening of the 19th, she said: "I want you all to come; I want to embrace you while I know you all." One by one the family relatives were embraced by her the last time and she called each one of us by name and delivered her last message which, if complied with, will ultimate reunite us in heaven. Her remains were followed by a large concourse of relatives and friends to the Cassville cemetery where the funeral services were conducted, after which her body was laid to rest beside her brother, James R., who proceed her in 1887.

She leaves a fresh?, mother, two brothers and three sisters, together with many friends to mourn her loss. "Be ye also ready for in an hour as ye think not, the Son of Man commeth." E.W. McCracken.

Roaring River News: Mr. Bruer killed a wolf near Mr. Hedrick's field.

Mrs. McPherson killed an eagle, last week, that measured from the tip of the wing to the tip of the other, six feet, four inches, and from the tip of its beak to the tip of its tail, two feet eight inches. [Research Note:  We are fortunate that the Bald Eagle is presently protected by the Endangered Species Act of 1973, Bald Eagle Protection Act of 1940, Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918 and the Lacey Act.]

Mr. McClure is one of Washburn's leading business men and Mrs. McClure is a daughter of J. M. Black, one of Cassville's prominent merchants. After the first to the year they will be "At Home" to their many friends, at their new home in Washburn.
