D. O. Daugherty Dead: Mrs. John Varner of Washburn Prairie received a telegram, Sunday stating that her half brother, D. O. Daugherty of Atlanta, GA, was dead. The St. Louis Globe Democrat of Sept 17, gives the following account of his death. Atlanta, GA. September 16. D. O. Daugherty, one of the most prominent business men of Atlanta, was found dead early this morning on the rear porch of his Peachtree street home, with a bullet through his heart. A pistol was found at his side.

Members of the family say Mr. Daugherty arose during the night on several occasions to look for someone who had been tampering with his automobile.

The coroner's jury determined that Mr. Daugherty came to his death through the accidental discharge of his own weapon. However, that Daugherty's automobile was found outside the garage bore out the family's story that he was looking for trespassers.

Daugherty was president of the Daugherty, Little, Redwine Company, one of the largest wholesale dry good firms in Atlanta.

Mr. Daugherty was also a half brother of W. R. Felker of Rogers, Ark., and of Mrs. W. B. Bayless of Columbia. The older citizens of the south part of the county knew him well, many of them having served with him as comrades in the Confederate army during he Civil War.

For a number of years he had been at Atlanta, GA, where he was successful in the mercantile business, being at the time of his death the senior member of the wholesale firm of Daugherty, Little, Redwine & Co. He leaves a widow and three children. The children are Edward J. and D. O. Daugherty, and Mrs. Lizzie Little.
