Washburn Prairie News: Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Meador spent from Thursday to Sunday in Monett with Mrs. Meador's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Thomas.

Washburn Prairie News: Mrs. P. D. Miller and children visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Barnes of Rock Springs, Saturday and Sunday.

Washburn Prairie News: Miss Pauline Varner is visiting a few days with her sister, Mrs. C. B. Stubblefield of Mano.

Milwaukee News: Mrs. Nola Daugherty and children visited her brother, Charley, and family at Exeter, Sunday. He has been pretty sick.

McDowell News: Fisk Marbut, oldest son of Curtis Marbut, will spend two months with his uncle, Ethel Marbut, and try farming some.

Seligman News: F. E. Apple of this place has gone to Topeka, Kans., to take a railroad position.

Shell Knob News: S. Z. Taylor died Sunday, July 28th, at Eli Cooper's where he was at work, of inflammation of the bowels caused by a rupture of long standing. He leaves a wife and five children to mourn his loss. He was buried in the Painter Cemetery.

Arnhart News: John Bowman had a mare to get her leg broke Wednesday night and had to kill her.

Gunter News: Famous Dodson bought 80 acres of land from John Bennett where Rufus McNeil now lives. 

Butterfield News: There will be a protracted meeting start at this place August 5th by Rev. Mitchell.

Butterfield News: Fred Williamson of Cassville was in our town, Monday on business.

Butterfield News: Born to Mack Gurley and wife, July 25, a big boy.

Hailey News: Mrs. Ollie Perkins of Kansas City is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Denton.

Wayne News: While making ties last Wednesday, Dave Bolin fell dead near the old Martin place, one mile from Wayne. His remains were taken to his home at Washburn and were laid to rest in the Truelove Cemetery Saturday. He leaves a wife and three daughters to mourn their loss. We sympathize with the family.

Washburn News: Miss Etha Phillips went to Purdy Friday to visit her aunt, Mrs. Carlin.

Washburn News: Dr. Dummitt [Dummit] wife and son Fountain, of Joplin and Mrs. Maud Goddard and two daughters, Nadine and Margaret Houston of near Purdy were the guests Saturday and Sunday of Arch Roller and family.

Washburn News: Mr. and Mrs. Ballard of Aurora visited the latter's brother, Arch Roller, and family last week. They were accompanied by their granddaughter, Miss Ballard.

Washburn News: Mrs. James Weston and son, Enoch, of near Butterfield visited E. A. Burnett and family Thursday and Friday.

Washburn News: Died Wednesday July 30th, D. Bolin of heart failure. Mrs. Bolin was at his work making ties and died suddenly. He was buried Saturday at Truelove grave yard. One brother came from Old Mexico to attend the funeral. Other relatives came but we failed to get their names. Mr. Bolin leaves an invalid wife and three daughters to mourn his death.

Washburn News: Walter Stephens happened to a very painful accident Monday. He was driving a nail and it broke off and flew in his eye. He went to Springfield the same day to consult a specialist, fearing it may result seriously.

Washburn News: Wesley Reed of Roaring River was on our streets Friday.

Rock Creek News: James Holman is slowly improving.

Rock Creek News: Frank Norris has gone to Morgan County to look about his land there.

Rock Creek News: Erve Brock and daughter, Miss Viola, made a flying trip to Cassville, Tuesday.

Rock Creek News: Mrs. Belle Cassity and children visited her sister, Mrs. Will Holman, part of last week.

New Salem News: James Wasson, wife and sons, Paul and J. E. Floyd Roller, wife and daughter, Ercie, spent Sunday at Eureka Springs, Ark.

New Salem News: Sill Roller and family, Aunt Elizabeth Roller, C. D. Henbest and family and Mr. and Mrs. John Ballard and granddaughter visited Sunday here Robert Rollers.

Mineral Springs News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brandon, Aug 2, a fine boy.

Mineral Springs News: Mrs. Hiram Brandon and children spent from Thursday till Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.? Lawhorn.

Dog Hollow News: Mrs. Chas. Buchanan and daughters, Misses Esther and Myrtle, of Kansas visited her brother, W. R. Crane, and sister, Mrs. R. H. Hazlewood, last week.

Forest Grove News: Dan Holliday and family of Mineral Springs visited W. L. Warren's Sunday.

Forest Grove News: W. L. Ennes and sons, Eldon and Mell, Dave Hall and Ranzy Ennes have gone to Joplin with some peaches.

Forest Grove News: J. W. Ennes united in marriage Miss Ida Black of Cassville and Mr. Bittle of Medicine Lodge, Kansas, Wednesday of last week at the home of Mr. Henley in Cassville. We extend congratulations.

Eagle Rock News: Charley Haddock and family of Exeter are visiting in this vicinity. [Research Note: Charles was the oldest son of Richard Ransom "Rance" and Sarah (Browning) Haddock.]

Mano News: Sam Gillmore who has been a merchant at Mano for several years has sold his store to Albert Easley. Mr. Easley will take charge Sept 1.

John Larecy and family came in Saturday from Hugo, Okla., to visit the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Larecy [Larecy] of Eagle Rock. Mr. Larcey [Larecy] is postmaster at Hugo. [Research Note: John's sister Mollie was married to William Greenberry Easley.]

Herbert, little son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Goddard of McDonald Township, died Friday at the home of Mrs. Goddard's parents, Mrs. and Mrs. A. L. Galloway, of indigestion, age 1 year and 8 months. Funeral services conducted by Rev. C. M. Smith of Exeter were held at Mr. Galloway's home Saturday afternoon and interment made in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Rev. C. Willard Smith and wife of Strafford, Kan., and Rev. W. Holt Smith of Fowler, Kan., are visiting their parents, Rev. and Mrs. C. M. Smith of Exeter. [Research Note: Charles Marion Smith was married to Eliza Virginia Swiger. She was a sister to James Swiger who was married to Penelope Haddock.  Rev. C. M. Smith was a son of William S. Smith and his wife Elizabeth Bandy. He also was a grandson of Charles and Nancy (Jacobs) Smith. Giles Ira Smith was another of Charles and Nancy (Jacobs) Smith's sons.]

Aged Mother Passes Away: Rebecca Elizabeth House, an aged and respected citizen, died at her home about 3 miles west of Cassville, Tuesday, about 2 o'clock a.m. For months her condition had been critical on account of a cancer trouble and her advanced age.

Mrs. House was born in Tennessee, Oct 11, 1830. In the year 1853, she came to Barry County and lived at Cassville about two years. In 1855 she moved to the farm west of town on which she died. Her husband, Judge House, died in 1893. They were the parents of 12 children of whom 6 are living. They are: Mrs. W. P. Browning, and Mrs. M. Y. Setzer of Exeter, James and Chas. House of near Cassville, Mrs. Frank Brandenburg of Butterfield and Mrs. James Browning of Shoal Creek.

For a number of years she had been a member of he Cassville Christian Church. She was a devoted Christian and exemplified in her long life the principles which guided religious faith. She was especially devoted to her home and family and in turn her children were devoted to their mother and gave her every consideration. Her death marks the passing away of one of Barry County's pioneer citizens who lived a [an] useful life.

Interment was made Tuesday afternoon at the Oak Hill Cemetery after he funeral services conducted there by Rev. E. A. Frost in the presence of a large number of friends and neighbors.  

Mrs. Bert Robbins Dead: Mrs. Bert Robbins died Friday, morning, August 1, at the home of her brother, Dr. Robert Harper, at Afton, Okla. Funeral services were held Sunday at New Salem church near Monett, conducted by Rev. Francis Goodnight. Interment was made in the Goodnight Cemetery. 

The deceased was a young woman of much intelligence and lovely Christian character. Her name before her marriage to Bert Robbins was Luella Harper. She taught school a number of years in Barry County and stood high in her profession. She was married in 1903. She was the mother of four daughters who survive her.

She was ill for a time with tuberculosis. Six months before her death she left her little family with relatives and went to Afton, Okla., to receive medical treatment from her brother. The disease had too firm a hold, however and her brave fight for health was unrewarded. Dr. Harper, Mrs. Harper and Misses Clara and Margaret Harper were present at the funeral. Monett Times.

Flat Creek News: Uncle Price Summers of Crane died Thursday, July 31, and his remains were laid to rest in the Carney Cemetery, Aug 1. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Davis Coones of this place. The bereaved have the heartfelt sympathy of all.

Viola News: Mrs. W. H. Schroder was called to Springfield to see her mother who has a broken collar bone and is not expected to live.

Viola News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. John Phillips, Aug 8th, a daughter.

Washburn News: J. Roller of Webb City is recuperating at his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arch Roller. Mr. Roller was hurt in the mines by some falling timbers and was in the hospital three weeks but is very much improved.

Washburn News: Charlie Flaherty and family of Huron, South Dakota, came Wednesday of last week for an extended visit with his mother, Mrs. Flaherty. They will also attended the reunion and visit friends near Cassville and Springfield before returning home.

Washburn News: Mrs. Horton's sister, Miss Mary Wright was married to a gentlemen from Idaho. They left Monday for Idaho, their future home.

Oak Ridge News: George Bennett of Chicago came in Tuesday to visit John Johnson and other relatives. His daughter, Miss Nellie, has been here several weeks.

Oak Ridge News: Born to James Craig and wife, one day last week, a dishwasher.

Shell Knob News: Drucie Cooper and her brother, Charley Brantley have gone to Oklahoma to see their brother, Lee.

Shell Knob News: Mrs. Bertha Smith and husband of Texas are visiting her uncle and aunt Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Hill.

Shell Knob News: Walter Williamson and Ed Allsion have been hauling the former's Elberta peaches to market this week. These peaches grow upon the highest mountain in this locality and are very fine.

Rock Springs News: Mrs. Lillie Wilkerson and children of Texas are visiting here.

Rock Springs News: Aug 4 was Uncle James Still's seventy-third birthday. A number of relatives and friends surprised him by setting a fine dinner.

Rock Springs News: Mrs. T. J. Barnes was bitten by a snake, thought to be a copperhead, a few days ago but is getting along very well from that, but she is in bad health from kidney trouble.

Washburn Prairie News: Mrs. R. F. Howell and daughter, Wilma of Okmulgee, Okla., are visiting her mother, Mrs. H. J. Hopkins, at this place.

Washburn Prairie News: Mrs. P.E. Smith and sons, Claude and Hopkins and daughters, Katiemaye, [Katie Maye?] Ruby and Edna, of Eagle Rock visited at her mothers Mrs. H. J. Hopkins from Friday till Sunday.

Budded on Earth to Bloom in Heaven: Norma Maxine Baze, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Baze, who recently became citizens of Cassville, died Thursday, August 7, after a few days illness of indigestion. Norma was born October 26, 1912, making her 21 months and 21 days old. [unreadable section] The funeral services were conducted at the Cassville Baptist Church Friday afternoon by Rev. C. M. Smith of Exeter and interment made in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

John Aperandi of Capps Creek Township, brought his children Lawrence, Mary, and Lucy to Cassville this week and enjoyed the reunion.

J. W. Lee came in the first of the week from Pedimont to visit his father, J. R. Lee. This is the first visit to Cassville.

Mrs. Bert Townsend and Mrs. Carrie Bennett of Joplin are visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Edens.

A. T. Higgins of Stone's Prairie was in Cassville Tuesday attending to Probate court matters.

New Site News: Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Haddock, and daughter, Ruth of Melrose, New Mexico, are visiting relatives in our neighborhood. [Research Note: Alonzo Haddock was married to Louisa Browning, daughter of Charles H. and Silvy (Reeves) Browning. Their daughter Ruth Haddock, was born December 15,1899, and was a twin to Rubie Haddock. Ruth was married John A. Childress and Rubie died in 1900. All these are buried at New Site along with other immediate family members.] 

New Site News: Mrs. J. H. Browning and daughter came in from Melrose, N.M. Saturday night to visit relatives here and at Purdy for a few days. [Research Note: Joshua H. Browning was married to Margaret Gurley. She was a daughter of John and Mary Gurley and he was a brother of Louisa Browning who was married to Alonzo Haddock.]

Washburn Prairie News: Married in Cassville at the home of the officiating minister, Rev. R. G. Mitchell, at 2:30 o'clock, Wednesday, Aug 13, 1913, Mr. Otto Ruppert of Wheaton and Miss Clara Longley of this place. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Dayton Brattin  of Wheaton. Mr. Ruppert is the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Ruppert and Mrs. Ruppert is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Longley and is a favorite among the young people of Washburn Prairie. They will make their home near Wheaton. The writer joins their many friends in whishing them a long life of joy and happiness.

Washburn Prairie News: Jack Longley came home Sunday night with his parents from Fairland, Okla., to visit a few days with homefolks. He intends going to Idaho soon.

Washburn Prairie News: Henry Weston spent Saturday and Saturday night with his niece, Miss Lydia Burnett of Washburn. She is very poor health.

Pioneer News: Mrs. Frank Stewart accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Harvey Wormington and sister, Miss Mollie Privett, left the 19th for a visit with her brother, John Privett, at Victor, Colo. They are enjoying the delightful cool climate here.

Pioneer News: Miss Margaret Harper of Lawrence, Kan., arrived Aug 15 for a visit with H. L. Harper's and the old friends, her first visit since 1905. She has been employed for the past six years in Haskell Institute one of the largest of the United States Indian Training schools, and will report for duty the 22nd as the academic and business department opens September 8.

Pioneer News: During the last winter Will Camp located three bee trees in Aaron Wangerman's timber near Clarence Tarvins. Having persuaded Lair Harper to assist them in capturing the bees and the honey, Saturday, Aug 15, was selected as the day of fortune. A number of volunteers gladly joined the party, among them being Clinton and White Harper, Herman Tarvin, Elisha Tarvin, and wife and daughters, Misses Margaret and Lucy Harper and Mrs. Wangerman and children. In the beginning the working party was smaller than the onlookers, but this was reversed by afternoon, as the second tree was well filled with fresh honey and the third had a space of about ten or twelve inches in diameter and four feet long filled with honey which caused the undertaking to be worth the while.

Seligman News: G. W. Jones of this place who traded his farm for a business house in Tolono, Ill, is well pleased with his trade.

Eagle Rock News: R. W. Whittington's miller is taking of moving here.

Eagle Rock News: R. W. Whittington is putting up big scales for the purpose of weighing stock which will be a big advantage to our little village.

Butterfield News: Fred Ferguson is talking of moving to Monett this week.

Big Springs News: Hiram, Jim and Ernest Still are working with a well drill near Ridgely.

Shell Knob News: Riley Madewell and family came in Sunday from Sallisaw, Okla., to spend a couple of weeks visiting C. P. Ethridge and others.

Shell Knob News: Sally Painter and son, Harvey, left for their home at Wheaton last Friday after a two weeks visit with her son, Thomas Painter.

Milwaukee News: Henry Weston and family and E.W. Daugherty and family was the guest of their mother, N. S. Baker, Sunday.

Wheaton News: Wm. Corley who has been living at Fairland, Okla., for sometime, was in town Saturday in his auto. Mr. Corley has sold his interest in a garage at Fairland and has moved back near Rocky Comfort.

Wheaton News: Taylor Larimore living north of town has moved to the Geo. Sims property and J. R. Gibson who occupied that house has moved to the Geo. Gillman farm.

Rock Springs News: Clarence Smithy has sold his crop to his uncle, B.A. Gowan, and has gone to his home in Texas.

Rock Springs News: There was a musical entertainment at B.A. Gowan's the night of the 11th in honor of Mr. Wilkerson and family of Texas who are visiting Mr. Gowan.

Rock Springs News: A few days ago The Russell & Co., through J. A. Roller, shut Thomas Pratt's threshing machine down, on account of Pratt failing to make his payments. The machine will soon be for sale again.

Vanzandt News: Rome Wilkerson and family of Leonard, Tex, spent last week at C. S. Arnold's.

Vanzandt News: Miss Grace Towers of Aurora visited her sister, Mrs. Alger Williams last week.

Vanzandt News: Carl, little son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Heffley has been very ill but is better at this writing.

Sam Packwood and sister, Mrs. Elvira Lee, of Ellensburg, Wash., returned home last week after a visit with friends an relatives.

Mrs. Gillie Short and daughter, Grace, of Marionville visit the families of J. H. Thomas and A. L. Galloway last week.

C. N. Sapp of the Doss locality near Exeter died Tuesday of last week after several days illness, age about 63 years. The deceased had lived in this county all his life and was a member of a highly respected family. Interment was made Wednesday afternoon at New Church Cemetery west of Butterfield.

J. W. Turner who went to Texas some weeks ago and Mrs. Biddie Matlock of Ennis, Tex., but who formerly lived in the vicinity of Cassville, were recently married. Word from the contracting parties to relatives here announcing their marriage was received some days ago. They will reside at Houston, Tex. Their many friends here join in wishing the best of life for them.

Bert Goddard of McDonald Township was placed under arrest Tuesday on the charge of forgery. It is claimed that Goddard some months ago made a note of $30 to Walker White hearing the signature of his wife who denies signing the note. Goddard was arrested in Jasper County.

Mrs. Lyman Baker and little daughter, Isabelle, of Berryville, Ark., are visiting her aunt, Mr. J. A. Reed and family.

Hiram Whisman of Dawson, Okla., who has been visiting his son, Joel, and family of Viola, for several weeks returned home Thursday.

J. Moore and family of Baxter Springs, Kan., arrived Saturday to visit Mrs. Moore's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vanus Anderson, west of town.

Prof. J. W. Wingo of Greene County was in Cassville, Thursday and attended the reunion. He also spent a part of last week with his daughter, Mrs. Chas. Albright, at Purdy. Mr. Wingo at one time was principal of the Cassville public school.

Roy, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Wallen is ill this week.

Mrs. Chas. Butler and children of Tulsa, Okla., visited Jerry Miller at Cato from Saturday until Wednesday.

Mrs. J. E. Houston of Kansas City arrived Tuesday to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Sons.

Harve Newman of Oklahoma spent Thursday with his brother, M. E. Newman.

Floyd Johnson, Emery and Miss Mable [Mabel] Snow of Sarcoxie visited he family of M. E. Newman last week.

Will Morgan of Temple, Texas and James Morgan of Neosho, and sister, Mrs. Mattie Erwin of Sarcoxie visited relatives about Cassville last week and attended the reunion.

Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Hudson visited in Monett Sunday. Miss Agnes Johnston who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. Hudson, returned home with them.

Henry Long,  a prominent dairyman of near Monett, has opened up a creamery business in Monett.

F. G. Mitchell and son of Mason City, Ia., who have been visiting Mr. Mitchell's sister, Mrs. C. H. Funston, returned home Monday. Mr. Mitchell is a superintendent of the Globe-Gazette Printing Co., at Mason City.

Miss Gillie Short and daughter, Grace, of Marionville visited the families of J. H. Thomas and A. L. Galloway last week.

Leslie Carson of Springfield visited with the family of J. Painter last week.

Miss Madeline Wear of Springfield visited the family of W. A. Wear last week.

Miss Rosa Cunningham who for a number of years has been teaching in the Monett public schools will teach this year in Jackson County.

Miss Bessie Fringer of Tower Hill, Ill., returned home Sunday night after several days visit with the family of J. W. Sherwood.

Born, Friday, August 15, to Mr. and Mrs. Ami Reynaud, two miles south of Monett, a ten pound daughter. Monett Times.

Albert Davis and two daughters or St Paul., Ark., are visiting the family of Dr. C. W. Kenerston and wife.

Mrs. Esther Pendergraft and daughter, Miss Dixie, of Peirce [Pierce] City visited with friends in Cassville last week and attended the reunion.

Mrs. A. F. Cox and family of Monett, Mrs. Lee Chapman and son of Webb City and Mr. and Mrs. Howell of Sarcoxie visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. R. Moore, east of town last week.

Mrs. Ella Ridgway of Hot Springs, Ark., left Sunday night for a visit to Washington after spending a few days here with her father, A. P. Baze.

Albert Reynolds and wife of Montana, Kan., Mrs. James Chapman of Minden Mines, Barton County, Elsey Smith and wife of Golden, Ollie Ennes and wife of Monett, and John Ennes and family Butterfield visited Rev. And Mrs. J. W. Ennes east of town last week and attended the reunion.

Mrs. Wm. Reed north of town has been suffering from getting her right limb broken in two places below the knee. While gathering peaches Tuesday of last she stepped on a peach that caused her to fall and receive her injuries.

Union Valley News: Mrs. Lot Senseney and son, Donal, [Donald?] visited on Kings Hollow Saturday night and Sunday with the family of Ned Baker.

Union Valley News: Guy and Mabel Cole spend Saturday night and Sunday at Jas. Goostree's near Exeter and attending the ice cream supper at Mrs. Burton's Saturday night. They report a fine time.

Union Valley News: The Still brothers are drilling a well for the school district which will be appreciated by the school children very much. 

Big Springs News: Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Still visited at James Still's of Rock Springs Sunday evening.

New Salem News: Robt Roller and wife, Sill Roller and family and Dan Roller visited Sunday with Aunt Lizabeth Roller. [Elizabeth?]

Washburn News: Mrs. H. M. Pennington of Paul's Valley, Okla., returned to her home Thursday of last week. She has been visiting her parents, J. A. Frost and wife for the past two months. [Research Note John A. Frost and wife Emma F. are both buried at Washburn Prairie Cemetery.]

Washburn News: Mrs.  G. M. Withers and children of near Monett spent last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Stark.

Washburn News: Mrs. W. O. Black of Cassville spent Saturday and Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Stark.

Washburn News: Mr. and Mrs. Claud Gailey of Kemp, Texas, returned to their home Wednesday after an extended visit with the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Woodruff.

Washburn News: Died at her home, Aug 21st, 1913, Miss Lydia Burnett, age 26 years, 1 month 6 days. She was the oldest daughter of Elijah and Lizzie Burnett. She was a sweet Christian girl and bore her long sickness without a murmur. She will be greatly missed in the home and community. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. C. M. Smith of Exeter at Washburn Prairie, after which the body was laid to rest by the side of her sister, Stella, who preceded her only a few short months. The bereaved family have the sympathy of he community. [Research note: Elijah Anderson Burnett and Elizabeth Weston had a number of children, of which most lived in or near Washburn. Among the Lydia's siblings were Andrew Amos, John Wesley, Charles A., Stella Ann, Calmer R., Amanda Caldona who married Frank Windes; Ruby Jewell who married Dana Louis Vance; Clyde, Earl Orlando, and Carmen Eugene. Andrew Amos Burnett, one of their sons, mentioned above married Martha Florence Weathers, a Zachariah Haddock descendant. Amos and Florence are buried at Washburn Prairie Cemetery as are most of the other members mentioned here.]  

Washburn News: Miss Estella Pease left Thursday for a visit in Cedar, Kan., with her sister, Mrs. E. A. Lund. She will visit friends in Kansas City and other places in Kansas before she returns. [Research Note: Stella and Minnie, wife of Ernest Lund, where the daughters of James Alvin and Janetta (Fetrow) Pease. There was one other child in the family, Ella Mae Pease, who married James Harvey Mooney.]

Mano News: Miss Kitt Varner of Washburn Prairie has been visiting her sister, C. B. Stubblefield, the past two weeks.

Mano News: O. W. Steaver and brothers but a bee tree a few days ago that had 50 or 60 pounds of honey. [Spelled Steaver in this item and in the one below Stever.]

Mano News: Clarence Stever of Bartlesville, Okla., is visiting friends and relatives here.

Mano News: Evert Brock and Misses Ora and Ona Holman visited Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Easley Sunday.

Mano News: Mrs. C. H. Munday has been quite sick but is better at this writing.

Osa News: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cowell and daughter of Dewey, Okla., have been visiting her mother, Mrs. Susan Basset, and her sisters near Osa.

Osa News: Albert Hemphill and daughter, Miss Gale, and son, Robert, left Thursday for Republic. He came home Saturday and left his children to make a visit with their grandparents and other relatives before their school begins at Osa.

Seligman News: Mary J. Irvin had a sale on the 20th, selling her entire personal property. On the 22nd, one Stephen F. Ramsdell with a marriage license in his pocket and justice T. P. Hulsey proceed to unite the above mentioned gentlemen to Mary J. Irvin for life. The happy couple left of the next train amidst showers of rice through by their friends.

Seligman News: P. S. Mahan is going to move to Mountain, the first of the month. Mr. Mahan has been one of our leading merchants for the past year and leaves only friends and well wishes in our little town.

Seligman News: Grace Goosman who had made her home with Mrs. Irvin for years went to Joplin to remain permanently.

Wayne News: Mrs. Oscar Holder spent Saturday and Sunday with her mother, Mrs. F. Roblier at Wayne.

Wayne News: Mrs. Levee is quite sick at he home of her son, Walter McIntyre at this place.

Wayne News: Our school is progressing nicely with Mr. Baldwin as teacher.

Wayne News: A train killed a horse for G. W. Erwin, Sunday night.

McDowell News: Mrs. John Jordan has been with her son, Evert, on Flat Creek during the sickness of his wife, and death of their little infant baby.

Miss Helen Perry of Monett who has been spending he summer with her grandmother, Mrs. Helen Hobbs, returned home Sunday.

Will Lee of Golden was in Cassville Friday, enroute home form Oklahoma. He reports the crops badly damaged there by the continued drought.

Mrs. E. A. Stewart of Durant, Okla., is visiting her sister, Mrs. Jane McClure, and other relatives in Cassville.

Mrs. Nannie Stadler of West, Tex., came in Friday to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Neeley, and other relatives in and about Cassville.

Mrs. D. L. Mitchell and daughter, Miss Mable, [Mabel] visited in Joplin the latter part of last week.

Mrs. Ella Sims of Paint Rock, Tex., is visiting her brother, J. W. LeCompte and family.

Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Hankins spent the latter part of last week in Eureka Springs, Ark.

Miss Lea Scott's mother and sister of Monett spent Saturday and Sunday in Cassville.

Mrs. Lois C. Lamson, widow of he late Judge J.C. Lamson of Pineville, and who at one time was circuit judge of this judicial district, died at her home in Pineville on Monday of last week.

S. M. Trolinger received word last week from his son, Enoch, at Wagoner, Okla., stating there were then forty-five cases of typhoid fever so far as a result of he epidemic of that disease at Wagoner.

Mrs. J. E. Houston and daughter, Helen of Kansas City, returned home Saturday night. Helen has been spending he summer with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Sons.

Mrs. B. J. Rosewater and children have returned to their home at Eureka Springs after having spent some weeks in Cassville.

A. C. Hailey and daughter, Miss Fonnie, came up Saturday from Mr. Hailey's ranch near Shell Knob. Miss Fonnie went to Seligman to visit friends Saturday night.

A barn on Arthur Stubblefield's farm, located about 4 miles southeast of Eagle Rock, was struck by lighting Wednesday of last week and burned. A man working on the farm was in the barn when it was struck and was badly stunned. Several tons of hay and some farming implement was burned. There was no insurance.

M. P. Stephenson, east of town, and Miss Maggie Gibbs of Pittsburg, Kan., were united in marriage at Pittsburg on Saturday, August 9. Mr. Stephenson is a young man of excellent habits and has many friends in the vicitny of Cassville. The happy couple arrived from Pittsburg Saturday and after a few weeks stay out east of town they will return here to reside until spring. 

We are informed that Mrs. Ettalee Barrett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clay Stubblefield, southwest of town, is making speedy recovery from recent illness. She returned last week to Jonesboro, Ark., from Memphis, Tenn., where she took treatment in a hospital for several weeks. After a visit with relatives at Jonesboro, she will return to her home at Black Oak, Ark.

Wilford Keith, east of town, went to Dessa, Newton County, Tuesday night. He will begin teaching at Dessa, Monday.

Prof. Cochran of Butterfield has been assisting County Superintendent Hankins the past few days in his office. Mr. Cochran is principal of the Wheaton school and will begin teaching here Monday.

Albert Davis and two children of St. Paul, Ark, retuned home Friday after a few days stay with Dr. and Mrs. C. W. Kennerston.
